new technologies and the ability to use them in a discreet way,
the research on the body expression of the actors and the possibility
to revive a text through a reading. The National Theatre of
Northern Greece offered its contribution to the Europe Theatre
Prize events with its production of The Bacchae, by Euripides.
The staging of Euripides’ tragedy was characterized by strong
folk connotation, by references to an agro-pastoral world where
Dyonisus has a chance to be re-evoked and called back from the
past. The day ended with two productions of the Belarus Free
Theatre: Generation Jeans and Being Harold Pinter.
Generation Jeans is a monologue interweaving some details of
the protagonist’s personal life and experience with historical
well-known events related to the fight for freedom of certain
countries and taking as a reference point a symbol garment:
jeans. Being Harold Pinter is a staging of the creative process
and the life and choices of Harold Pinter. This play tries to find
answers to some questions posed by Pinter himself: How is a
play born? What is the difference between truth in theatre and
truth in reality? Saturday’s events were opened with the screening
of the film Garden of Earthly Delights – the choreographer
Sasha Waltz directed by Brigitte Kramer. The film focused on the
personality and work of the German dancer and choreographer
Sasha Waltz. Afterwards, there was a Conference and Meeting
with Rimini Protokoll, a German group of directors, winners of
the X Europe Prize New Theatrical Realities.
The speakers analysed the work of the three directors and they
focused on their peculiar “dramaturgy of care”: their performances
involve common people and speak about issues taken
from the latest news, such as unemployment, old age, pollution,
temporary jobs, immigration and so on. In the evening, there
was the presentation of the book “Giorgio Strehler ou la passion
théâtrale/Giorgio Strehler or a passion for theatre”, a bilingual
version of the Italian book “Giorgio Strehler o la passione teatrale”,
published by Ubulibri and dedicated to Strehler, winner of
the III Europe Theatre Prize in 1990.
The new version in French and English was extended with added
contributions on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the
death of the great Italian director, who was the founder of Piccolo
Teatro in Milan. Afterwards Patrice Chéreau presented the
first of his two readings, La Douleur, by Marguerite Duras. The
text is a diary in which the author recognizes herself in terms of
162
zręczność, z jaką twórca uczestniczy w „oficjalnych” projektach,
nie pozwalając przytłoczyć się tej „oficjalności”, oraz uwaga
poświęcana nowym technologiom i zdolność dyskretnego ich
używania, studiowanie ekspresji ciała aktorów i możliwości
ożywienia tekstu poprzez czytania.
Teatr Narodowy Grecji Północnej wniósł swój wkład do
obchodów Europejskiej Nagrody Teatralnej swoją realizacją
Bachantek. Inscenizacja tragedii Eurypidesa charakteryzowała
się znaczącymi konotacjami folklorystycznymi i odniesieniami
do świata rolniczo-pasterskiego, w którym możliwe było
przywołanie z przeszłości samego Dionizosa. Dzień zakończył
się dwiema produkcjami Wolnego Teatru Białorusi: Pokolenie
Jeans i Być Haroldem Pinterem. Pokolenie Jeans to monolog
spleciony ze szczegółami z osobistego życia i doświadczeniami
bohatera oraz dobrze znanymi wydarzeniami historycznymi,
związanymi z walką niektórych krajów o niepodległość; za
punkt odniesienia bierze on ubiór-symbol: dżinsy. Być Haroldem
Pinterem to inscenizacja procesu twórczego i życia i wyborów
Harolda Pintera.
tancerki i choreografa, Sashy Waltz.
Strehler or a passion for theatre” (Giorgio Strehler albo pasja dla
teatru), dwujęzycznej wersji włoskiej książki „Giorgio Strehler
o la passione teatrale, wydanej przez Ubulibri i poświęconej
Strehlerowi, laureatowi III Europejskiej Nagrody Teatralnej
z roku 1990. Nową wersję, w języku francuskim i angielskim,
rozszerzono o materiały dodane z okazji dziesiątej rocznicy
śmierci wielkiego włoskiego reżysera, założyciela Piccolo
Teatro w Mediolanie. Następnie Patrice Chéreau przedstawił
pierwsze ze swoich dwóch czytań, Ból Marguerite Duras. Tekst
