The Union of the Theatres of Europe was founded in Paris
in 1990, under the impulse of the French President
François Mitterrand, by Jack Lang, the French Minister
of Culture at the time, and Giorgio Strehler. It brings together
today 17 member theatres and individual members in
16 countries. The UTE has been undertaking trans-national
activities for over 18 years, contributing to the promotion of
European drama by fostering the circulation of works, artists
and ideas. It organises an annual itinerant festival, workshops
for young professionals, exhibitions, meetings and publications.
It also promotes cultural exchanges, productions and
co-productions.
L’Union des Théâtres de l’Europe a été fondée à Paris
en 1990 par Jack Lang - alors ministre de la culture -
et par Giorgio Strehler, sous l’égide du président de la
République Française François Mitterrand. Aujourd’hui, elle
rassemble 17 théâtres membres ainsi que des membres à titre
personnel dans 16 pays. Depuis 18 ans, l’UTE continue de
développer ses activités transnationales pour la diffusion du
théâtre européen, en favorisant la circulation des œuvres, des
artistes et des idées. L’UTE organise chaque année un festival
itinérant, des ateliers pour les jeunes professionnels, des expositions,
des rencontres et des publications. Elle encourage
les échanges, les productions et les coproductions de spectacles.

pod egidą prezydenta Francji François Mitterranda.
Dzisiaj organizacja zrzesza 17 teatrów członkowskich
oraz członków indywidualnych w 16 krajach. Od 18 lat
Unia nieprzerwanie rozwija ponadnarodową działalność,
której celem jest upowszechnianie teatru europejskiego,
przyczyniając się do obiegu dzieł, ruchu twórców i idei.
Każdego roku UTE organizuje wędrowny festiwal, warsztaty
dla młodych profesjonalistów, wystawy, spotkania oraz wydaje
publikacje. Wspiera także wymiany, produkcje i koprodukcje
spektakli.
Der Verband Europäischer Theater wurde 1990, auf Anregung
des französischen Präsidenten François Mitterrand, von
Jack Lang, dem damaligen Kulturminister, und von Giorgio
Strehler in Paris gegründet. Heute besteht sie aus 17
Mitgliedstheatern aus 16 Ländern. Seit 18 Jahren sorgt
die UTE mit ihren grenzübergreifenden Aktivitäten für die
Verbreitung und den Austausch des europäischen Theaters,
indem sie einen Kreislauf von Werken, Künstlern und Ideen
fördert. Sie organisiert ein jährliches Festival in wechselnden
Austragungsorten, Ateliers für Nachwuchskünstler,
Ausstellungen, Konferenzen und Veröffentlichungen und
fördert Austausch, Produktion und Koproduktion von
Aufführungen.
L’unione dei teatri d’Europa è stata fondata a Parigi nel 1990, per iniziativa del presidente francese
François Mitterrand, da Jack Lang, all’epoca Ministro della Cultura francese, e da Giorgio Strehler. Oggi
riunisce 17 teatri e membri individuali in 16 paesi. L’UTE ha intrapreso attività transnazionali per oltre 18
anni, contribuendo alla promozione del dramma europeo, incoraggiando la circolazione di opere, artisti
e idee. Organizza un festival annuale itinerante, workshop per giovani professionisti, mostre, incontri e
pubblicazioni. Promuove anche scambi culturali, produzioni e coproduzioni.
