To say that without Krystian Lupa the new Polish theatre
would not exist might sound like an exaggeration but it is
simply a fact. Lupa not only created his own language but
also influenced at least two generations of young directors, as
their master in the theatre school in Kraków. It is very hard to
imagine what the Polish scene would be without his particular
work: the theatre that fights against theatricality, the actor
who is obliged to fight against acting. Lupa’s search for truth
in the theatre has slowly gathered a wide circle of loyal spectators,
not only in Poland but also in Europe. His performances,
some of which can be long enough to change the rhythm of
life of the audience, have become an important point of reference
for theatre researchers. It has been a long and unpredictable
journey. This conference will present all its stages
and aspects. From Jelenia Gora, where Lupa began working
as a young director, to Factory 2 – the impossible theatre experience
- and the youngest generation of students graduating
from theatre school in Kraków. The choice of participants will
also make it possible to discuss the reception of Lupa’s work
in France, Russia and the USA.

Stwierdzenie, że nowy polski teatr nie istniałby bez Krystiana
Lupy, niektórym może wydać się przesadzone,
ale tak właśnie jest. Lupa stworzył nie tylko swój
odrębny język, ale silnie ukształtował co najmniej dwa pokolenia
młodych reżyserów, jako ich wykładowca w krakowskiej
Państwowej Wyższej Szkole Teatralnej. Nie sposób sobie
wyobrazić jak wyglądałby polska scena bez jego szczególnej
pracy: teatru, który walczy z teatralnością, aktora, który musi
walczyć z aktorska grą pozorów. Poszukiwanie prawdy w teatrze
powoli zgromadziły wokół Lupy rosnącą rzeszę wiernych
widzów, nie tylko w Polsce ale także w Europie. Jego
trwające często wiele godzin spektakle, które całkowicie
odmieniają rytm życia widzów, stały się bardzo istotnym
punktem odniesienia dla teoretyków teatru. To była długa i
nieoczywista podróż. Podczas konferencji zostaną zaprezentowane
jej wszystkie etapy i aspekty. Poczynając od Jeleniej
Góry, gdzie Lupa pracował jako młody reżyser, aż po „Factory
2” – doświadczenie teatru niemożliwego i najmłodszych wychowanków
z wydziału reżyserii. Porozmawiamy także o tym,
jak dzieło Krystiana Lupy odbierane jest za granicą.
