C’est une chose que nous avons en commun avec nos<br />

amis de BMW, qui ont connu la même situation avec<br />

la “Mille Miglia 328 Coupé”, qu’ils ont réussi<br />

finalement à acheter il y a deux ans, tandis<br />

qu’auparavant ils n’avaient que des copies à montrer<br />

au public. C’est le seul moyen qu’un constructeur a<br />

pour montrer au public les voitures qui ont été<br />

perdues .<br />

Les automobiles d’Auto Union, comme je l’ai dit<br />

auparavant, disparurent ou furent perdues, mais<br />

celle-ci est une auto originale, une Type D, de 1938,<br />

conduite par Nuvolari. Nous l’exposons tous les ans<br />

au Grand Prix Nuvolari, dont nous sommes les<br />

principaux sponsors. Elle fut trouvée en Russie après<br />

10 ans de recherche par M. Paul Karassik et nous<br />

l’avons achetée parce qu’il semble que c’est la seule<br />

auto de 1938 encore existante. Celle-ci est originale,<br />

nous avons des détails, vous pouvez voir le moteur, le<br />

compresseur, la puissance de 420 chevaux.<br />

Nous utilisons également ces voitures pour des<br />

expositions; nous conduisons nos autos lors<br />

d’expositions et non lors de compétitions, à la<br />

différence d’autres producteurs, comme par<br />

exemple Bentley. Nous devons en avoir soin et leur<br />

prêter une particulière attention. Seuls nos pilotes<br />

peuvent les conduire, ce sont des pilotes<br />

professionnels, c’est pour ça que nous devons<br />

toujours leur rappeler “s’il vous plait, sachez que<br />

vous conduisez une voiture très ancienne”, comme<br />

cela ils vont vite mais pas aussi vite que les pilotes de<br />

Bentley. La Type C Streamline de Auto Union est une<br />

copie fidèle à 100%, il serait intéressant d’ouvrir un<br />

débat pour identifier les différences entre une<br />

reproduction exacte et une auto reconstruite.<br />

Nous avons pensé qu’il était très important pour<br />

l’histoire d’Audi de démontrer les capacités d’Auto<br />

riusciti finalmente ad acquistare due anni fa, mentre<br />

prima di allora avevano delle copie da mostrare al<br />

pubblico. È l’unico modo che una fabbrica ha per<br />

mostrare auto che sono andate perse al pubblico .<br />

Le automobili di Auto Union, come ho detto prima,<br />

scomparirono o andarono perse, ma questa è un’auto<br />

originale, una Type D, del 1938, guidata da Nuvolari.<br />

La esponiamo ogni anno durante il Gran Premio<br />

Nuvolari, di cui siamo i principali sponsor. Fu trovata<br />

in Russia dopo le lunghe ricerche durate 10 anni da<br />

parte del Sig. Paul Karassik.<br />

L’acquistammo perché, a quanto ci risulta, è l’unica<br />

auto del ’38 ancora esistente. Questa è quella<br />

originale, abbiamo alcuni dettagli, potete vedere il<br />

motore, il compressore, la potenza di 420 cavalli di<br />

potenza.<br />

Utilizziamo anche quest’auto durante gli eventi; noi<br />

guidiamo le nostre auto solo durante occasioni<br />

speciali e non per gare, il che costituisce una<br />

differenza con altri produttori, come per esempio la<br />

Bentley. Dobbiamo averne cura e prestare loro<br />

particolare attenzione, le guidano solo i nostri piloti,<br />

sono piloti da corsa professionisti, per cui dobbiamo<br />

sempre ricordar loro “per favore, pensa che stai<br />

guidando un’auto molto vecchia”, così vanno veloci<br />

ma non tanto quanto i piloti della Bentley. La type C<br />

Streamline dell’Auto Union è una copia fedele al<br />

100%, sarebbe interessante aprire un dibattito per<br />

identificare le differenze tra una riproduzione esatta<br />

e un’auto ricostruita. Abbiamo pensato che fosse<br />

molto importante per la storia dell’Audi dimostrare le<br />

capacità dell’ Auto Union nella costruzione di auto da<br />

corsa negli anni Trenta, e anche in questo caso<br />

abbiamo deciso di riprodurre questa macchina e<br />

utilizzarla sia durante le mostre che per<br />

dimostrazioni di guida.<br />

horse power. We use it also for demonstrations, we<br />

only drive cars for demonstrations not for races, this<br />

is a difference to other private owners, like the<br />

Bentley boys for example. We have to take care of<br />

them and we have to pay attention, only our drivers<br />

can drive these cars. They are race drivers so we<br />

have to say “please think that it’s an old car”, they<br />

drive very fast but not so fast as the Bentley boys.<br />

The Auto Union type C Streamline is 100% replica and<br />

it’s interesting to have a discussion to know what is a<br />

replica and what is a rebuilt car. We thought it was<br />

very important for the history of Audi to show the<br />

capacity of Auto Union race cars in the 30s, and in this<br />

case again we decided to make this car new and to<br />

use it for exhibition and also for drives. The very first,<br />

after we built the replica, was in year 2000 in France,<br />

so we don’t use it only for exhibitions and displays but<br />

we use it for demonstrations as well. This 100%<br />

rebuilt car has also the 520 horse power engine with<br />

16 cylinders and it is very attractive for the people<br />

coming in our museum. The car was driven by<br />

Rosemeyer, as you know he was a formula 1 pilot in<br />

the 30s as M. Schumacher is today for the formula 1.<br />

So this is the reproduction of the ’37 car.<br />

Then we have this Type C/D with the double twins on<br />

the rear, which is the only original remaining car<br />

found in Russia and was for 27 years in the Riga moto<br />

museum. They saved really this car in their museum<br />

and we worked a lot of time to have this car in our<br />

collection and finally got it 1995. This car was driven<br />

from Hans Stuck - as we always say in our guided<br />

tours he was the ”founder” of the Quattro idea<br />

because he thought it was better to have two twin<br />

tyres on the back, to have a better road handling. And<br />

this is also the 16 cylinder engine, with 520 horse
