mare buono. E, sempre se il mare
lo permette, è possibile fare immersioni
tramite i diving center
ammirando i coralli, le grosse cernie,
le stelle marine e i moltissimi
pesci che, grazie all’Area Marina
Protetta, sono tornati a nuotare
tranquilli intorno a Punta Chiappa
e nelle baie attigue. Dal porticciolo
si può anche imbarcarsi sui
frequenti battelli che conducono a
San Fruttuoso, dove si visita la postazione
medievale degli aristocratici
Doria, a Portofino, alle Cinque
Terre o anche, in direzione opposta
ma sempre lungo l’acqua, a Genova
al Porto Antico.
I ristoranti di Camogli non si limitano
ai tanti piatti di pesce fresco o
quelli della tradizione come le trofie
al pesto, i ripieni di verdure, il
bagnun di acciughe, ma propongono
molte altre specialità a seconda
delle stagioni, come i prelibati funghi
. Il tutto bagnato dai vini liguri.
Apprezzata da grandi e piccoli è
la focaccia sfornata calda a ogni
ora del giorno nei forni del centro
storico, come le varie torte di verdura
che hanno reso celebre la cucina
ligure.
Ottimi sono anche i gelati artigianali
e i Camogliesi, dolci al rhum
che si trovano nei tanti negozi
sparsi tra le due vie centrali, via
Garibaldi e via della Repubblica,
dove si può fare shopping nelle
boutique, nei negozi di gastronomia,
nelle enoteche, nelle librerie e
nelle gioiellerie: grande successo
Nelle
frazioni di Ruta e San Rocco, in
alto sopra il borgo, altri ristoranti,
caffè e negozi offrono al turista
ancora prelibatezze e un panorama
incomparabile.
The fishermen still weave by hand,
each year, the net made of Indian
coconut fiber that fishes the fish
that you find in the restaurants of
the village. Fresh fish, as it comes
into the port each good fishing day
in the early morning. And on a
good diving day, when the sea is
calm, the Diving Center can take
you underwater to admire the
corals, huge groupers, starfish, and
all the other fish, both big and
small which, thanks to the
Protected Marine Area, swim
peacefully around Punta Chiappa
and the surrounding coves. From
the little harbor you can also take
one of the many boats that go
around Portofino promontory to
San Fruttuoso with its medieval
abbey where the noble Doria family
has its tombs, to chic Portofino, the
trendy Cinque Terre, or heading the
other way, west across the waters,
to Genoa’s Porto Antico.
Restaurants in Camogli do not
confine themselves to fresh fish in
myriad versions. They also do
traditional fare such as trofie al
pesto, ripieni di verdure (stuffed
vegetables), bagnun di acciughe,
and so many delicacies depending
on the season – like mushrooms
for example. All washed down by
Ligurian wines. Then there are the
focaccia breads that are loved by
young and old, pulled hot out of
the oven each day in the old town,
along with the
salty pies filled
with vegetables
that have made
Liguria famous.
Excellent also is
the artisan ice
cream, and the
Camogliesi,
the desserts
made with rum
which you can
buy in the
shops along
the two main
streets, via Garibaldi and via della
Repubblica, where you can also
shop in the boutiques,
delicatessens, wine taverns,
bookshops, and jewelry shops –
with original jewels, highly in
demand, made from the striped
pebbles of the sea taken right
from the beach of Camogli.
The old town is filled with lovely
shops, local quality crafts, and
traditional foods, like salted
anchovies and sailors’ crackers,
which were once used on long
ocean voyages softened by
Ligurian olive oil, olives and tuna.
Above the town, on the mountain
are two other little villages, part of
the municipality, Ruta and San
Rocco, with yet more restaurants,
cafés, and shops to offer the
tourist a vast choice with a vast
view over the whole gulf.
