grande armatore è il marchese Nicolò Reggio.
Ma ci sono anche “il Corot della California”-
Giuseppe Leone Cadenasso - e Maria Maddalena
Solari che fonda la Scuola d’arte di Memphis.
E, insieme a quelle dei gesuiti, restano altre memorie
preziose: come il diario di Andrea Gagliardo
da Camposasco e le lettere di suor Blandina –
al secolo Maria Rosa Segale di Cicagna, che ebbe
a che fare anche con Billy the Kid.
Nel 1892 la grande Esposizione italo- americana
di Genova, su cui si innescano le Celebrazioni colombiane,
testimonia la costanza di un rapporto
di lunga durata. Un rapporto che non si interrompe
neppure in quel “secolo breve” che porta
con sé le due guerre mondiali, il Fascismo e la
Resistenza e che colpisce brutalmente la frontiera
ligure.
Infatti le truppe americane che marciano in via
XX Settembre il 27 aprile 1945 - due giorni dopo
che Genova si è liberata da sé - riconoscono
anch’esse, come già hanno detto gli Inglesi - che
una volta di più i Liguri hanno compiuto davvero
“a wonderful job”.
Marshall Plan. To him is dedicated not just a square
in San Francisco but also, in 1973, a U.S. postage
stamp. Paul Rosasco founded Rosasco Brothers,
pitch pine exporters ; shipwright Matteo Amico of
Loano along with his brother dedicated their
activity to coastal shipping; while a great shipowner
was the marquis, Nicolò Reggio.
Then there is the “Corot of California”, Giuseppe
Leone Cadenasso, Maria Maddalena Solari who
founded the Memphis School of Art. And, along
with those of the Jesuits, there are other precious
memories like the diary of Andrea Gagliardo of
Camposasco and the letters of Sister Blandina.
Maria Rosa Segale of Cicagna had dealings with
Billy the Kid.
In 1892 the great Italian-American Exposition in
Genoa, as part of the Columbian Celebrations,
testified to the consistency of a long-lasting
relationship. A relationship which was not even
interrupted in that “brief century” which lead to
two world wars, Fascism, and the Resistance
Movement which brutally affected the Ligurian
border. In fact the American troops who marched
down via XX Settembre on April 27, 1945 – two
days after Genoa had freed herself – were aware of
the fact. They said, as the English had already said,
that one more time, the Ligurians had truly done “a
wonderful job”.
