York nel 2009 ha segnato per
Matteo Levaggi, coreografo
residente del Balletto Teatro di
Torino, l’affermazione anche
negli States del sodalizio con gli
artisti visivi genovesi Corpi Crudi
e la consacrazione del pubblico
newyorkese.
Levaggi, originario di Chiavari
ma torinese d’adozione, ha solo
35 anni, eppure ha già firmato
una decina di creazioni per la
compagnia torinese, alcune
delle quali per la Biennale Danza
di Venezia, Biennale de la
Danse de Lyon, Ballet Fest of
Miami. Invitato dall’associazione
D’Angel-Angeli della Danza
a ricevere il Premio alla coreografia
nell’ambito del Gala internazionale

The debut of “Primo Toccare-
Black” (First Touch-Black) at
the Joyce Theatre in New York in
2009 was a great success for
Matteo Levaggi, resident
choreographer at the ballet
group, Balletto Teatro di Torino. It
marked the affirmation even in
the United States of his
fellowship in the Genoese visual
artist group called Corpi Crudi
and its consecration with the New
York public.
Levaggi, who hails from Chiavari
but now lives in Turin, is only 35,
but has already signed off on a
dozen productions for the Turin
company, including those done
for the Biennale Danza of Venice,
Biennale de la Danse of Lyon, and
Ballet Fest of Miami.
Invited by the D’Angel-Angeli
Dance Association to receive the
Choreography Prize at the third
Gala Internazionale Danzatalenti
on Saturday, May 18 at the Teatro
Gustavo Modena in Genoa,
Levaggi will bring with him the
integral version of “Primo
«Questa creazione, per la prima
volta a Genova – afferma –
procede per immagini. Scandita
da tre episodi (l’ultimo, “Red”,
ideato per Bolzano Danza nel
2010, ndr) come fossero visioni
segnate ciascuna da colori decisi,
nasce dalla riflessione sull’eternità
e la caducità dell’esistere».
I Corpi Crudi hanno anche firmato
progetto, impianto scenico
e costumi de “LeVergini” che
ha debutatto al Ballet Fest di
Miami nel 2011 e ha segnato la
nascita di un legame forte con
il pubblico degli States. «Credo
che gli americani – dice Levaggi
- trovino nel nostro linguaggio
molti punti in comune ma
siano soprattutto incuriositi da
una cultura ricca e diversa e dai
personaggi ispirati alla nostra
storia che mettiamo in scena».
Per esempio “Caravaggio”, fresco
del recente successo a Los
Angeles, è stato ospitato a Genova
nell’ambito del Festival del
Balletto nel 2004.

“The first time showing of this
creation in Genoa proceeds by
images,” he explains. Divided into
three episodes (the last, “Red”,
was designed by Bolzano Danza in
2010) as if they were visions, each
marked by strong colors, born of
reflections upon eternity and the
transience of existence”.
The Corpi Crudi have also signed
off on projects, scenery, and
costumes in “LeVergini” which
made its debut at the Ballet Fest
of Miami in 2011, the start of
strong ties with the public in the
United States.
“I feel that Americans find many
points in common in our
language,” says Levaggi, “but they
are above all made curious by our
culture which is so rich and
diverse, and by the characters
inspired by our history that we
put onto the stage.” An example
is “Caravaggio”, fresh from its
recent success in Los Angeles,
which was performered in Genoa
