immediately end up in their
catalogues and brochures”, tells
Pinelli. Another very picturesque
itinerary goes from Campiglia to
Biassa, does a tour of the Gulf, to
then reach Bocca di Magra. Yet
another rises up from the sea at
Bocca di Magra to enjoy the view
from Montemarcello and then
descend to Tellaro, near the
Cinque Terre.
The paths are part of our
heritage, and well worth taking
advantage of. Just think that in
Germany, 30 million people
belong to hiking associations, and
the figures continue to rise.
Another segment is cycling fans –
both road and mountain bike.
“We have so many interesting
routes and soon we are planning
to enrich the offering adding
electrical bicycles,” explains the
President of the STL.
The first figures in for the 2013
tourist season are positive. Last
year, after floods and landslides,
reservations dropped. But this
year the numbers are comforting,
due especially to foreign tourism.”
In Manarola, Riomaggiore, and
Vernazza work is continuing to
reopen all the paths that were
damaged by the weather. Efforts
are concentrated above all on the
Via dell’Amore, that romantic
promenade carved out of the
cliffs between Riomaggiore and
Manarola, then closed because of
the landslides. “It was an
authentic emergency,” Pinelli tells
with anguish, “as if in Pisa, they
closed the Tower.”
Out-of-season tourist offerings
this year in La Spezia include a
special edition Festa della
Marineria, (Festival of the Navies)
from October 3 to 6, which will
also host the concluding leg of
the Mediterranean Tall Ship
Regatta. This great international
regatta, dedicated to tall ships
from around the world, leaves
from Barcelona to pass Toulon,
and arrive in La Spezia.
E Vernazza rinasce più verde
And a Greener Vernazza Is Reborn
Secondo il New York Times è
l’unica destinazione italiana
indicata tra i 46 luoghi da
vedere nel 2013, ma in realtà è
una fortuna che Vernazza ci sia
ancora. L’alluvione del 25
ottobre 2011 ha rischiato di
portarla via, di cancellarla
insieme ad altri angoli delle
Cinque Terre. Invece il loro
paesaggio è ancora là, a rapire e
sconvolgere le anime dei
viaggiatori di tutto il mondo,
con le case colorate degli
antichi borghi che sembrano
tenersi per mano, aggrappate le
une alle altre in un comune
destino. Un’immagine così
amata nel mondo che
York Times ha inserito tra i luoghi del mondo da non perdere
After the flood of 2011, Richard Rogers – great friend of native
son and fellow Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Renzo Piano – is
urban planning Vernazza, one of the five Cinque Terre, with
alternative energy and sustainable mobility
Though it is the only Italian
destination among the 46
places to see in 2013 listed by the
New York Times, it is actually pure
luck that Vernazza still actually
exists. The devastating flood of
October 25, 2011 almost swept it
away, along with other parts of
the Cinque Terre. But it is still
here. It still steals the hearts and
una gigantografia di Manarola.
