La città dei teatri
The City of Theatres
e i suoi giovani vicoli, quasi
trent’anni fa – a Sampierdarena,
nell’estrema periferia - una
giovane compagnia di aspiranti
attori (tra cui Maurizio Crozza)
contribuì a fondare quello che
sarebbe diventato il Teatro
dell’Archivolto. Vocazione
decisamente più popolare per il
Politeama Genovese,
che in questi anni ha portato sul
palco tutti i più grandi
protagonisti della scena televisiva
e cinematografica italiana, con
qualche apprezzata incursione nel
teatro civile. Dietro ai mostri
sacri, tuttavia, il fermento non
manca, come dimostra la crescita
costante del Teatro Cargo e del
Tkc Teatro della Gioventù (con
centinaia di repliche in
programma).
Theatre in Genoa is rich and
varied. That is why Genoa is the
Italian city with the greatest
number of theatres per number
of inhabitants. If the Teatro della
Tosse personifies, even
geographically, the old city and
its young-spirited medieval
alleyways, almost thirty years ago,
in far-off Sampierdarena, on the
outskirts of town, a young
company of aspiring actors got
together to found what would
become the Archivolto. A
vocation that was decidedly more
popular for the Politeama
Genovese, which over the years
has brought to its stage all of the
greatest protagonists of Italian
cinema and TV, with a few muchappreciated
incursions into civil
theatre. Behind the sacred cows,
all the same, ferment is not
lacking, as seen by Teatro Cargo
and Tkc Teatro della Gioventù.
fatto rimpiangere la coppia cinematografica Elisabeth
Taylor - Richard Burton.
Le opportunità di conoscere il teatro statunitense
non mancano neppure alla Tosse, all’Archivolto
e al Genovese che dedica un’attenzione
speciale al musical, riproponendo molti titoli
statunitensi “cult”in versione italiana. Un titolo
campione d’incassi e di lunga tenuta Jesus
Christ superstar.
Abbiamo parlato di
istituzioni e di sale
ben radicate nel tessuto
della città, ma si
possono costruire
ponti di ampia gittata,
capaci di unire le
sponde del Mar Ligure
all’Oceano anche
senza avere una sede.
E’ il caso di Andrea
Liberovici che con il
Teatro del Suono si è
esibito più volte a
New York e ha rapporti
di collaborazione
molto stretta con
Peter Greenaway e
Bob Wilson.
I risultati si sono visti
al Duse che ha ospitato
una sua Operetta
al nero, ispirata a
Christopher Marlowe,
corredata da musiche
mefistofeliche
e illuminata da Sandro
Sussi, da molti
anni allo Stabile di
Genova dopo
un’esperienza nella
factory del registaarchitetto
texano.
Unico nel suo genere
il percorso di Kiara
L’indimenticata Mariangela Melato, qua in
scena con Lavia in “Chi ha paura di Virginia
Woolf”, e (sopra) una scena de “I due gemelli
Veneziani”, del 1963
The unforgettable and renown Mariangela
Melato together with Lavia in a scene from
“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”.
Above, a scene from “The Two
Venetian Twins” in 1963
Pipino: durante
l’estate dirige il Festival di Valle Christi a Rapallo
e subito dopo riparte per il Michigan dove è
professore associato di teatro alla Gran Valley
University.
Ha portato in scena i suoi allievi all’ombra dell’antico
monastero ligure e non dimentica mai la
tradizione teatrale italiana nelle sue lezioni, senza
derogare a una regola: rispettare il passato
di cui i giovani sono curiosi, ma uscire dagli stereotipi
“pizza e mandolino”.
and competition. And the possibility of comparing
our world with that of a society that is even more
ruthless – as told by David Mamet , through Luca
Barbareschi a few years ago, in “Glengarry Glen
Ross”, which speaks of a hell without pity and with
an aggressiveness which finds in foul language the
only system of communication possible.
Henry James came to us with “What Maisie Knew”
- the little girl being fought over by
her parents in a divorce - with
kudos to Mariangela Melato and
director Luca Ronconi. Tennessee
Williams appeared on the program
as “A Streetcar Named Desire”
(directed by Elio De Capitani and
performed by Mariangela Melato)
and “The Glass Menagerie” (Claudia
Cardinale’s courageous theatrical
experience directed by Andrea
Liberovici).
Our renown Mariangela Melato’s
marvelous performance at Gabriele
Lavia’s side in” Who’s Afraid of
Virginia Wolf”, easily rivaled the
Elisabeth Taylor- Richard Burton
cinema duo.
Opportunities to see American
theatre can be had also at our
theatre of the cough (its name in
Italian) Teatro della Tosse, at the
Archivolto, and at the Genovese,
which is paying special attention to
musicals, re-proposing American
cult titles in an Italian version. The
champion in terms of earnings and
duration Jesus Christ Superstar.
We have spoken of institutions and
theatre halls that are part of the
city fabric, but you can build
bridges, long in reach, able to cross
from the shores of the Ligurian Sea
to the other side of the ocean.
Such is the case of Andrea
Liberovici who, with his Teatro del
Suono, has performed several times
in New York. He also has created very close
collaboration relationships with Peter Greenaway
and Bob Wilson. Unique in her genre, Kiara Pipino in
the summer runs the Festival of the Valle Cristi in
Rapallo, then returns to Michigan where she is
associate professor of theatre at the Gran Valley
University.
She brought her pupils to act in the shadows of the
ancient monastery, and never will they forget the
Italian theatre tradition.
