Panorama Mundial<br />
Setor florestal dos países tropicais po<strong>de</strong>rá<br />
ser beneficiado pelo Protocolo <strong>de</strong> Kioto<br />
As florestas cobrem atualmente cerca <strong>de</strong><br />
30% <strong>da</strong> área territorial do conjunto <strong>de</strong><br />
países do globo terrestre. São quase 3,9 bilhões<br />
<strong>de</strong> hectares <strong>de</strong> florestas no mundo, sendo<br />
95% <strong>de</strong> formação natural e apenas 5% <strong>de</strong><br />
florestas planta<strong>da</strong>s. A Rússia e o Brasil são os<br />
maiores <strong>de</strong>tentores <strong>da</strong>s florestas mundiais,<br />
com 22% e 14,1%, respectivamente, <strong>da</strong> superfície<br />
total (Tabela 1).<br />
As florestas planta<strong>da</strong>s somam aproxima<strong>da</strong>mente<br />
186,7 milhões <strong>de</strong> hectares, a maior parte<br />
no continente asiático. A China, com mais <strong>de</strong><br />
45 milhões <strong>de</strong> hectares reflorestados, <strong>de</strong>tém<br />
24% <strong>da</strong> área mundial cultiva<strong>da</strong> com florestas,<br />
segui<strong>da</strong> pela Índia (17,4%), a Rússia, (9,3%),<br />
os Estados Unidos (8,7%), o Japão (5,7%) e a<br />
Indonésia (5,3%). O Brasil, com aproxima<strong>da</strong>mente<br />
5 milhões <strong>de</strong> hectares reflorestados, é o<br />
sétimo país que mais refloresta no mundo.<br />
A produção mundial total <strong>de</strong> ma<strong>de</strong>ira<br />
atingiu 3,35 bilhões <strong>de</strong> m 3 em 2000, 1,9% a<br />
