Engines or Freight Trains Coupled.—Continued.
5.—All instances in which trains have been coupled during the night
must be recorded by the signalmen in the occurrence books, and an extract
sent to the Station Master for transmission to the District Superintendent.
6.--A light engine may be attached in front of a train worked by one
engine, and when it is already assisted by an engine in the rear, except where
prohibited on pages 111-112. The load in this case should not exceed the
maximum for the section.
7.—Two light engines, or two engines and not more than two brake vans
may be run coupled at any time, i.e., during the day or night, and on any
line except where prohibited on pages 111 and 112, in any of the following
positions :—

8.—A Freight train having empty coaching stock vehicles attached
may couple to the rear of a goods or mineral train, but no train must be
coupled to the rear of a freight train having coaching stock vehicles
attached.
9.—On purely mineral lines two trains may be coupled to another train,
provided the total number of wagons does not exceed 110.

COUPLING OF VACUUM FITTED TRAINS AND LOOSELY
COUPLED TRAINS.
General Rule 149a.
A train of wagons fitted with the Vacuum brake must not be coupled to
any other train fitted with loose couplings. ( O . 3038).
STOPPING OF TRAINS AT STATIONS WHERE THERE ARE
LEVEL CROSSINGS.
General Rule 152 (a).
When stopping at stations where there are level crossings, drivers of
passenger trains must see that the engine is brought to a stand clear of the
crossing whenever this can be done without the train having to be drawn
up twice. ( O . 5/1-1913).
