Changing <strong>the</strong> Lamp<br />

Inserting a New Lamp<br />

1 Hold <strong>the</strong> new lamp by <strong>the</strong> metal ring <strong>to</strong> avoid <strong>to</strong>uching <strong>the</strong> glass surface.<br />

Fingerprints absorb light and can reduce light intensity.<br />

2 Insert <strong>the</strong> lamp in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> lamp compartment. Position <strong>the</strong> lamp so that <strong>the</strong><br />

notch in <strong>the</strong> lamp ring matches with <strong>the</strong> pin on <strong>the</strong> detec<strong>to</strong>r housing.<br />

3 Tighten <strong>the</strong> two lamp screws.<br />

4 Connect <strong>the</strong> lamp cable connec<strong>to</strong>r and fix <strong>the</strong> cables in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> channel in <strong>the</strong><br />

foam.<br />

5 Close <strong>the</strong> detec<strong>to</strong>r lid without clamping <strong>the</strong> lamp cable.<br />

6 Close <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>p cover. Turn line power on.<br />

7 Boot <strong>the</strong> <strong>Agilent</strong> ChemStation and turn <strong>the</strong> lamp on.<br />

8 Allow <strong>the</strong> lamp <strong>to</strong> warm up for about 1 hour.<br />

9 Perform an Intensity Test in <strong>the</strong> Detec<strong>to</strong>r Test suite in <strong>the</strong> Lab<br />

Advisor/Instrument Utilities software <strong>to</strong> determine <strong>the</strong> initial lamp<br />

intensity of your new lamp. S<strong>to</strong>re <strong>the</strong> result for you own reference.<br />

Fur<strong>the</strong>r Action<br />

If <strong>the</strong> instrument fails this test, check <strong>the</strong> following:<br />

• correct seating and connection of <strong>the</strong> lamp cables,<br />

• correct seating of <strong>the</strong> cassette, and<br />

• if <strong>the</strong> green alignment interface without capillary is used, check for<br />

contamination of <strong>the</strong> interface.<br />

If none of <strong>the</strong>se reasons apply, call <strong>Agilent</strong> Technologies.<br />
