4 LAN Configuration<br />

Initialization Mode Selection<br />

Bootp & S<strong>to</strong>re<br />

When "Bootp & S<strong>to</strong>re" is selected, <strong>the</strong> parameters obtained from a Bootp<br />

server become <strong>the</strong> active parameters immediately. In addition, <strong>the</strong>y are s<strong>to</strong>red<br />

in <strong>the</strong> non-volatile memory of <strong>the</strong> <strong>7100</strong> CE. Thus, after a power cycle <strong>the</strong>y are<br />

still available. This enables a kind of "Bootp once" configuration of <strong>the</strong> <strong>7100</strong><br />

CE.<br />

Example: The user may not want <strong>to</strong> have a Bootp server be active in his<br />

network all <strong>the</strong> time. But on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, he may not have any o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

configuration method than Bootp. In this case he starts <strong>the</strong> Bootp server<br />

temporarily, powers on <strong>the</strong> <strong>7100</strong> CE using <strong>the</strong> initialization mode "Bootp &<br />

S<strong>to</strong>re", waits for <strong>the</strong> Bootp cycle <strong>to</strong> be completed, closes <strong>the</strong> Bootp server and<br />

powers down <strong>the</strong> <strong>7100</strong> CE. Then, he selects <strong>the</strong> initialization mode "Using<br />

S<strong>to</strong>red" and powers on <strong>the</strong> <strong>7100</strong> CE again. From now on, he is able <strong>to</strong> establish<br />

<strong>the</strong> TCP/IP connection <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>7100</strong> CE with <strong>the</strong> parameters obtained in that<br />

single Bootp cycle.<br />

Bootp & S<strong>to</strong>re (principle)<br />

NOTE<br />

Use <strong>the</strong> initialization mode "Bootp & S<strong>to</strong>re" carefully, because writing <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> non-volatile<br />

memory takes time. Therefore, if <strong>the</strong> <strong>7100</strong> CE is <strong>to</strong> obtain its parameters from a Bootp<br />

server every time it is powered on, <strong>the</strong> recommended initialization mode is "Bootp"!<br />
