To suppress the virulence of Xylella fastidiosa (X. fastidiosa), the causative agent of Pierce’s<br />

disease (PD), Vitis vinifera cv ‘Thompson Seedless’ (TS) plants were transformed via<br />

Agrobacterium tumefaciens <strong>with</strong> the pear polygalacturonase inhibiting protein (pPGIP). We have<br />

previously shown that decreased leaf symptoms <strong>and</strong> movement of X. fastidiosa was achieved in<br />

transgenic plants expressing pPGIP after infection of X. fastidiosa, as in earlier findings <strong>with</strong><br />

Botrytis cinerea. Microarray analysis (Affymetrix) of leaf tissues of grapevines expressing<br />
