Description:<br />

Human Services - Human Rights Council<br />

The mission of the Human Rights Council is to provide information and advice to the <strong>Kitsap</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board of<br />

Commissioners and county residents on matters related to human rights. Council services include:<br />

• production of an annual Human Rights Day Conference<br />

• community awareness and education on human rights’ issues<br />

• periodic public forums designed to reduce prejudice and discrimination<br />

• co-sponsorship with local school districts for an annual Youth Rally focusing on human rights’ issues<br />

• information and referrals to appropriate resources<br />

• monitoring and reporting of local bias crimes.<br />

2008 Accomplishments:<br />

Approximately 500-600 community members and students participate in Council-sponsored events each year.<br />

Public forums are cablecast into 40,000 households. Other individuals and organizations receive information,<br />

support and assistance, as requested.<br />

• Provided Human Rights educational information and awareness through community involvement including the annual<br />

Human Rights Conference and Youth Rally.<br />
