Significant <strong>Budget</strong> Issues<br />

• In <strong>2009</strong> Block Grant Entitlement fund will receive additional funding through the stimulus package.<br />

• In looking at the federal budget the Block Grant Entitlement fund is projected to do well.<br />

II.<br />

Purpose:<br />

The Community Development Block Grant Division manages and oversees federal grants to assist in the development of decent<br />

housing, a suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities for low income persons.<br />

III.<br />

2008 Accomplishments:<br />

• Received $1,143,403 in Community Development Block Grant funds and $964,038 in HOME consortium funds, which<br />

leveraged over $6 million in other federal, state and local funds.<br />

• Managed 70 Contracts.<br />

• Continued coordination with the City of Bremerton on applications and monitoring.<br />

• Actively participated in the Continuum of Care Coalition on the update to the 10-year Homeless Housing Plan.<br />

IV. <strong>2009</strong> Goals and Objectives:<br />

• Outreach to community partners, elected officials and employees through presentations on the Block Grant Program.<br />

• Develop written work procedures and cross train staff.<br />

• Develop internal financial tracking systems that will work in conjunction with our HUD system.<br />

• Continue working with the City of Bremerton to coordinate our processes.<br />

• Provide funding to projects that meet the needs and priorities identified in the 2006 – 2010 Consolidated Plan.<br />
