• Increase in <strong>2009</strong> funds due to federal Title XIX funds used for case management and nursing services<br />

of eligible clients.<br />

Program:<br />

Human Services - Developmental Disabilities<br />

Description: The Developmental Disabilities Program plans and develops programs and administers contracts with local<br />

agencies which provide direct services to <strong>Kitsap</strong> <strong>County</strong> citizens with developmental disabilities and their<br />

families. Program services include:<br />

• early intervention for infants from birth to 3 years of age<br />

• employment support<br />

• community access, retirement services<br />

• education, training and information<br />

• parent support program<br />

• family support grant administration<br />

• school-to-work transition services.<br />

Approximately 480 disabled infants and adults receive direct services every month. Children 3 years and<br />

older are served through their local school district. Eligibility of all participants must be determined by the<br />

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services' Division of Developmental Disabilities.<br />

2008 Accomplishments:<br />

• Expanded collaborative employment project, Work Independence Network (WIN) with Harrison Medical Center<br />

resulting in jobs for adults with developmental disabilities.<br />

• Provided training and information to over 400 parents, advocates and service providers on a wide range of topics<br />

including safety awareness, available services and supports, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for persons<br />

with developmental disabilities.<br />

Initiatives:<br />

• Provide Birth to Three services in natural environments.<br />

• Offer services and supports that afford increased community employment opportunities to high school students<br />

and adults with developmental disabilities.<br />
