114 WESTNET: West Sound Narcotics Enforcement Team: As the<br />

host agency, the Sheriff’s Office provides management oversight for the<br />

drug task force. WestNET is a multi-jurisdictional task force staffed with<br />

local law enforcement officers from county, state, local municipalities, and<br />

federal agencies. Its mission is to disrupt and reduce mid- to upper-level<br />

drug traffickers and manufacturers throughout the region, support counterdrug<br />

efforts of other law enforcement agencies, and aggressively<br />

prosecute those persons responsible for drug violations. $<br />

117 Boating Safety Program: <strong>Kitsap</strong> <strong>County</strong> has more shoreline<br />

than any other county within the continental United States. The Marine<br />

Services unit is responsible for patrolling over 236 miles of saltwater<br />

shoreline and five county lakes. The deputies participate in numerous<br />

public events and presentations throughout the year. The Unit supports<br />

other specialty teams, including Search and Rescue, U. S. Coast Guard,<br />

and SWAT, with waterborne tactical training and the WestNET narcotics<br />

team with drug surveillance and maritime drug searches. $<br />

129 Conservation Futures Tax: is a local option property tax<br />

assessed at the county level, at a maximum rate of 6.25 cents per $1,000<br />

of assessed value. Revenue from the tax may be used to purchase<br />

development rights for open space, agricultural, and timber lands. The tax<br />

was enacted to help fund the preservation of these lands in light of<br />

increasing urban and metropolitan development. Up to 15 percent of<br />

these tax revenues may be used for maintenance and operation of parks<br />
