ADVISORY SERVICES
In promoting clean and honest business
practices, the Department is committed to
assisting private sector organisations in adopting
ethical practices and strengthening the corruption
safeguards in their administrative and business
systems. During the year, the Advisory Services
Group continued its proactive approach in
providing free, confidential and tailor-made
corruption prevention services to private sector
organisations. A total of 366 requests for advice
were received and they were all responded to
within two working days as pledged.
During the year, the Group also assisted a
number of non-government organisations, which
received substantial government subventions, in
incorporating corruption-resistant safeguards in
their procedures for the administration of sheltered
workshops and other operations. To help reduce
opportunities for corruption and malpractice in the
tourism industry, the Group promulgated a Best
Practice Module on Travel Agent Operation to
provide a checklist of best practices for reference
by travel agent operators. In response to public
concern and ICAC cases about unauthorised
disclosure of customer information, the Group
joined force with the respective regulatory authority
in the banking and telecommunications industries
to organise two seminars, with a view to raising
staff awareness on the protection of customer data.
