ADVISORY SERVICES<br />

In promot<strong>in</strong>g clean and honest bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

practices, the Department is committed to<br />

assist<strong>in</strong>g private sector organisations <strong>in</strong> adopt<strong>in</strong>g<br />

ethical practices and strengthen<strong>in</strong>g the corruption<br />

safeguards <strong>in</strong> their adm<strong>in</strong>istrative and bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

systems. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the year, the Advisory Services<br />

Group cont<strong>in</strong>ued its proactive approach <strong>in</strong><br />

provid<strong>in</strong>g free, confidential and tailor-made<br />

corruption prevention services to private sector<br />

organisations. A total of 366 requests for advice<br />

were received and they were all responded to<br />

with<strong>in</strong> two work<strong>in</strong>g days as pledged.<br />

Dur<strong>in</strong>g the year, the Group also assisted a<br />

number of non-government organisations, which<br />

received substantial government subventions, <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>corporat<strong>in</strong>g corruption-resistant safeguards <strong>in</strong><br />

their procedures for the adm<strong>in</strong>istration of sheltered<br />

workshops and other operations. To help reduce<br />

opportunities for corruption and malpractice <strong>in</strong> the<br />

tourism <strong>in</strong>dustry, the Group promulgated a Best<br />

Practice Module on Travel Agent Operation to<br />

provide a checklist of best practices for reference<br />

by travel agent operators. In response to public<br />

concern and ICAC cases about unauthorised<br />

disclosure of customer <strong>in</strong>formation, the Group<br />

jo<strong>in</strong>ed force with the respective regulatory authority<br />

<strong>in</strong> the bank<strong>in</strong>g and telecommunications <strong>in</strong>dustries<br />

to organise two sem<strong>in</strong>ars, with a view to rais<strong>in</strong>g<br />

staff awareness on the protection of customer data.<br />
