ABOUT THE AUTHORSDon and Sandy <strong>Hockenbury</strong> are the authors of <strong>Psychology</strong> and <strong>Discovering</strong> <strong>Psychology</strong>. Asan author team, they bring their unique talents and abilities to the teaching of introductorypsychology.Don H. <strong>Hockenbury</strong> is Associate Professor of <strong>Psychology</strong> at TulsaCommunity College. Don received his B.S. in psychology and his M.A.in clinical psychology from the University of Tulsa. Before he began histeaching career, he worked in psychiatric facilities and in private practice.With over 25 years experience teaching psychology, Don is a recipientof the Tulsa Community College Award for Teaching Excellence.Although he enjoys the unique challenges of teaching online,the classroom setting is still his favorite forum for teaching studentsabout the science and personal relevance of psychology. Before coauthoring<strong>Psychology</strong> and <strong>Discovering</strong> <strong>Psychology</strong>, Don was a reviewerand supplements author for several psychology textbooks.Don’s favorite research interests include biopsychology, sleep and dreaming,memory, psychological disorders, and the history of psychology. Donbelongs to several professional organizations, including the Associationof Psychological Science (APS), the American Psychological Association (APA), the Society ofApplied Research in Memory and Cognition (SARMAC), and the American Academy ofSleep Medicine (AASM).Sandra E. <strong>Hockenbury</strong> is a science writer who specializes in psychology.Sandy received her B.A. from Shimer College and her M.A. fromthe University of Chicago, where she was also a Research Associate atthe Institute of Social and Behavioral Pathology. Prior to co-authoring<strong>Psychology</strong> and <strong>Discovering</strong> <strong>Psychology</strong>, Sandy worked for severalyears as a psychology editor in both academic and college textbookpublishing. Sandy has also taught as an adjunct faculty member atTulsa Community College.Sandy’s areas of interest include positive psychology, animal cognitionand behavior, cultural psychology, mind-body interaction, and the intersectionof Buddhist philosophy, neuroscience, and psychology. She is amember of the Association of Psychological Science (APS) and theAmerican Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).Don and Sandy’s daughter, Laura, is a college sophomore who, like her parents, has wideranginginterests, including geology, psychology, religion, and neuroscience. Laura alsoplays classical and improvisational piano, performs comedy sketches and improv, and is anenthusiastic ultimate Frisbee player.
