The instrument iscapable of real-time, end-point, and dissociation curve analysis of assays arrayed onmultiple formats. The 7900HT instrument is optimized for use withApplied Biosystems chemistries for nucleic acid quantification and detection.Figure 1-1 The Applied Biosystems 7900HT Fast Real-Time PCR System withthe Automation AccessorySupported Runsand ChemistriesThe Applied Biosystems 7900HT Fast Real-Time PCR System provides two types ofruns to support the variety of PCR-related chemistries available fromApplied Biosystems and affiliated companies.End-Point (Plate Read) ChemistryIn an end-point run, the thermal cycling of prepared plates containing reagents andtemplate is performed on a dedicated thermal cycler. Following the PCR, the 7900HTinstrument is then used to collect a plate-read or a single reading of the fluorescenceresulting from the completed reactions. Allelic Discrimination is an example of anend-point chemistry that is directly supported by the SDS software.Real-Time ChemistryIn a real-time run, the thermal cycling of prepared plates containing reagents andtemplate is performed on the 7900HT instrument. During the run, the instrumentcollects data at each cycle of the PCR. The resulting data provides a chronologicalseries of measurements of the fluorescence resulting from the reactions.
