However, data concerning discordances between these tests and their causes are scarce in HIV-HCV co-infected patients. The aims of this study were: (a) to assess the prevalence of discordance between FT, FS and APRI for the prediction of cirrhosis, (b) to determine the factors associated with discordance between FT and FS, FT and APRI and FS and APRI, and lastly (c) to attribute the cause of discordances to either FT, FS or APRI. 7
PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients Patients with HIV-HCV coinfection, included in the ANRS CO13 HEPAVIH cohort since January 2006 were eligible for this study. The ANRS CO 13 HEPAVIH cohort is a prospective, nation-wide hospital-based cohort of HIV-HCV co-infected patients initiated in 17 hospital wards in France. Adult patients with HIV-1 and HCV infections confirmed by HIV anti-body test and HCV RNA assay and who have given an informed consent were enrolled in the cohort, regardless of their clinical stage, gender, HIV and HCV transmission group or treatment. The schedule of follow-up visits is based on clinical practice as recommended by the consensus guidelines on hepatitis C, that is every 6 months for cirrhotic patients and yearly for non-cirrhotic patients. At each follow-up visit, epidemiological, clinical, biological, ultrasound and therapeutic data are collected by physicians in a standardized CRF and entered into a database. Liver fibrosis is evaluated at inception or thereafter by non-invasive tests (FT, FS and APRI). In order to be included in the present study, patients had to be HCV RNA positive, with available serum samples for the evaluation of all biological parameters necessary for non invasive tests (FT and APRI) and a FS performed within a period of 6 months. Noninclusion criterion was anti-HCV therapy during performance of FS and non invasive tests. Evaluation of fibrosis stage Evaluation of fibrosis stage by FibroTest Serum samples were taken on the same day that FS was performed (59%) or within a period of 6 months (41%) in order to assess biochemical markers of FT.
