RESULTS Characteristics of the patients Between January 2006 and April 2009, 378 patients of the ANRS CO 13 HEPAVIH cohort met the inclusion criteria for this study. Patients’ characteristics are reported in table 1. The median age was 45 years (IQR: 42-48) and most patients were male. The main source of HCV contamination was intra-venous drug exposure and genotype 1 was predominant. Median CD4 count was 443 per µl and most of patients were under antiretroviral therapy (88%). The prevalence of cirrhosis was 28 %, 15 % and 11 % for FT, FS and APRI, respectively (figure 1). Discordance between scores The frequency of discordances for cirrhosis was 22.2% between FT and FS, 20.9% between FT and APRI and 13.5% between FS and APRI. The frequency of discordances among the three non-invasive scores altogether was 28%. Factors associated with discordances between two tests Factors associated with discordance for cirrhosis between non-invasive scores are reported in tables 2, 3 and 4. In multivariate analysis, male gender, presence of lipodystrophy, and increase of bilirubin, α2–macroglobulin or of GGT levels were independently associated with discordance between FT and FS (table 2). Age older than 45 years, male gender, and increase of bilirubin, α2 –macroglobulin, or of GGT levels, as well as a low apolipoprotein A1 level were independent factors associated with a discordance between FT and APRI (table 3). 12
