Lastly, age older than 45 years, BMI >28, as well as an increase of GGT or of ALT levels
were the only independent factors associated with a discordance between FS and APRI
(table 4).
Sensitivity analysis
This analysis included 239 patients who did not receive atazanavir, who had a reliable result
of FS and who had less than five-fold the normal value of ALT. In this case, results showed a
slight decrease in the discordance rate (respectively 18%, 19% and 12% for FT/FS, FT/APRI
and FS/APRI), as compared with that of the 378 patients.
In multivariate analysis, male gender (odds ratio [OR]=10.8; 95% confidence interval [CI]:
[2.4-49.2], p=0.002), increase of ALT (OR=1.4; 95% CI: [1.1-1.8], p=0.01) and of α2–
macroglobulin (OR=7.0; 95% CI: [2.5-19.3], p=0.0002) values and a low haptoglobin level
(OR=5.6; 95% CI: [1.2-25.9], p=0.03) were independently associated with a discordance
between FT and FS.
Male gender (OR=4.6; 95% CI: [0.95-22.1], p=0.056), decrease in haptoglobin level
(OR=14.6; 95% CI: [3.1-68.6], p=0.0007) or in apolipoprotein A1 level (OR=0.2; 95% CI:
[0.04-0.8], p=0.03), and increase of α2–macroglobulin level (OR=6.7; 95% CI: [2.2-20.0],
p=0.0007), as well as a wider waist circumference (OR=1.4; 95% CI: [1.1-1.8], p=0.004) were
independent factors associated with a discordance between FT and APRI, whereas a BMI
over 28 (OR=6.2; 95% CI: [1.9-20.1], p=0.002) as well as an increase of ALT (OR=1.7; 95%
CI: [1.3-2.3], p=0.0002) values remained independently associated with a discordance
between FS and APRI.
Attribution of discordances for cirrhosis
Description and attribution of discordances, as well as the results of liver biopsy (LB)
are reported in table 5. In the discordances between FT and FS, FT estimated cirrhosis in
