Human capital, soils, cheapbuilding materials and favorable geographic and geo-political situation are themain comparative advantages of the Moldovan economy. Trade with Russia stillprevails in both: exports and imports. Highly demanded in the EU market areMoldovan products of winery, agriculture, and food processing and textilesindustries. It is necessary to develop technology intensive production and ruraltourism for better development and integration into the world economy.Lack of efficient specialization in the Moldovan economy has multiplecauses in its evolution including the state intervention, macroeconomicdevelopment and improper enterprises management. During the soviet periodMoldova was far away from the knowledge about specialization in the marketeconomy and the comparative advantage. In frames of CMEA Moldova was mostlyspecialized in regressive sectors and those presenting her traditional comparativedisadvantage.The structure of the Moldovan economy was designed in such a way as tofunction normally in frames of USSR. This allowed some degree ofindustrialization of the economy, which to some extent was artificial. Theindustries developed were the light industry mostly textiles, agricultural sector –fruit, milk, vegetables processing industries, engineering industries (someenterprises).
