Landscape of the Kaliningrad Oblast and open spaces in Chernyakhovsk/Insterburg
The study of the cultural landscape and the urban gardens and parks in the
Chernyakhovsk area is part of the scientific and cultural project insterJAHR,
which captures the architectural monuments of the Prussian period and especially
the 1920s and preserves their utility for the current residents. In the study
project, approaches to new land uses were identified based on the existing open
space and urban structures of Chernyakhovsk, as well as the historical cultural
landscapes, and concepts for a sustainable urban and regional development were
developed. The students investigated the significance, a cultural landscape
development drawing on historical structures can generate for the economic and
social development of remote rural areas.
In a workshop on site, along with students from Tartu (Estonia), concepts for
various open spaces in Chernyakhovsk were developed.
