Building Climatology and Building Services
ClimateDesign, the philosophy of Professor Hausladen and his Chair of Building
Climatology and Building Services is a planning discipline through which buildings
can offer the user maximum comfort for minimum energy. It presents solutions
for buildings which can achieve more while needing less technology. Its aim is to
develop buildings which offer maximum comfort while using a minimum amount
of energy. Thus, a holistic approach towards the planning procedure becomes
necessary, especially knowing that the supply by fossil energy sources will end in
a few years. Architecture and technology should not be planned in a serial manner,
but must form a balanced and complete system at the end of a multidimensional
process. Often a critical examination of the individual requirements can
reveal great potential for savings. The location of a building has possibilities and
requirements which have to be taken into account, in particular the design of the
building layout and facade. Many technical systems can be dispensed with provided
the facade is matched to the building use and is equipped with all the
required functional elements. The integration of the ventilation and the building
concepts can save drive energy and ensure a comfortable supply of fresh air. Ventilation
in conjunction with thermal storage mass can also improve room climate.
If the constructional parameters are optimized, then that is a good basis for the
installation of a regenerative energy system. It is not sufficient to deal separately
with the building, considerations about the urban structure and the urban planning
tools, as the basement for the building structures, are more and more important
especially in the field of power generation and distribution. The questions of
energy demand and availability of renewable energy are including the building as
well as the supply urban structure and they are one of the main research issues in
the next years concerning building and urbanism. In general the Chair is focused
on the teaching and research as well as in public relations, public discussions and
publications, to show the works at the university and to be present for leading
institutions of science, politics and industry.
