Lehre Study
The Swarm
The Swarm
This is a parametrically designed, free-standing, sculptural pavilion, whose design
is inspired by a flock of birds taking off. By the assembly of 211 individual CNC
milled modules, a play of density, light and shadow arises from the aggregation
of elements. The curves give the pavilion the dynamics of a passing flock of birds,
which touch the ground only to take off again into the sky in the next movement.
The complex system, which underlies the connection of the single parts and uses
them to create the overall shape, reveals itself only on closer inspection.
The composite Alucobond is used as the main material. Through the combination
of various milling techniques an intelligent folding of the plates is made possible,
which are thus brought to a three-dimensional, structurally effective shape.
The 14 meter long, 4.75 meter wide and 4 meter high pavilion was exhibited in
the outdoor area of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects.
