Die Zentralbibliothek der LMU soll ausgebaut werden um Elemente eines Lern-
& Informationszentrums mit folgenden Schwerpunktangeboten:
▪ Qualitativ hochwertige und differenzierte Arbeitsplätze
▪ Integration der bislang räumlich getrennten Lehrbuchsammlung
▪ Angebot eines Freihandbestandes mit Grundlagenliteratur
▪ Zentrale Ausleihe für Freihand- und Magazinbestand
▪ Forum für Ausstellungen und Veranstaltungen
▪ Bereiche für Gastronomie.
Die Bibliothek soll als Lernort erlebbar sein. Die Aufenthaltsqualität und möglichst
vielfältige Angebote an Arbeitsmöglichkeiten sollen im Mittelpunkt stehen.
Sowohl das konzentrierte Arbeiten an Einzelarbeitsplätzen und -räumen
(Carrels), das Austauschen in Gruppen, der Aufenthalt in loungeartigen Zonen
wie auch die mit besonderen Anforderungen verbundenen Arbeitsplätze für
schützenswerten Bestand sollen ermöglicht werden. Es soll keine explizite
Abtrennung von Computerarbeitsplätzen geben – der Einsatz von PCs, Notebooks
und mobilen Geräten soll flexibel möglich sein. Insgesamt ist eine möglichst
große Nutzungsflexibilität erwünscht. Der Ausleih- und Informationsbereich
ist stark durch die dortigen Funktionen und Services geprägt. Gerade die
Selbstabhol- und Verbuchungszone unterliegen einer großen Nutzerfrequenz, so
dass hier eine sehr effiziente Wegeführung wichtig ist.

The Central Library of the LMU is to be extended to elements of a Learning &
Information Centre with the following main services:
▪ High-quality and differentiated jobs
▪ Integration of the previously spatially separate textbook collection
▪ Supply of open-accesss holdings with basic literature
▪ Central issue for open access holdings and magazine inventory
▪ Forum for exhibitions and events
▪ Areas for food and drink
The library is to be experienced as a place of learning. The quality of accommodation
and a preferably diverse range of study modes should be central.
Focused study at individual workstations and rooms (carrels), as well as the
exchange in groups, the lounge-like zones and the workstations for those requesting
valuable items, should be made possible. There should be no explicit separation
of computer workstations - the flexible use of PCs, laptops and mobile
devices should be possible. Overall, the greatest possible flexibility of use is
wanted. The lending and information area is determined by its functions and
services. In particular, the self-collection and reservation zone are subject to
high user frequency, so very efficient routing is important.
