Die Juniorprofessur für Geschichte und Theorie der Landschaftsarchitektur
ergänzt das Fächerspektrum der Bachelor und Masterstudiengänge im Bereich
Landschaftsarchitektur, Landschaftsplanung, Urbanistik und Architektur an der
TUM seit November 2010.
Das Wissen um die Geschichte der Profession und um die Geschichte der Entstehung
einzelner Freiräume und Freiraumsysteme ist entscheidend für eine fundierte
Berufspraxis. Die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem gesellschaftlichen
- also etwa dem kulturellen, dem politischen oder dem sozialen - Kontext
der Konzipierung und Gestaltung von städtischen Freiräumen trägt zum Verständnis
aktueller städtischer Entwicklungsprozesse bei. Sie befähigt die Studentinnen
und Studenten, eine selbstbewusste und differenzierte Haltung im
Diskurs über die Planung und Gestaltung zukünftiger Stadträume einzunehmen.
Die Analyse theoretischer Schriften, das Studium von primären Quellen wie
Planmaterial und Protokollen, die Rezeption der Fachpresse, die Dokumentation
des Nutzungsverhaltens durch Interviews oder Beobachtung können exemplarisch
für eine ganze Bandbreite möglicher Herangehensweisen an das Studium
der Geschichte und der theoretischen - oft auch Ideologie geladenen - Unterfütterung
der eigenen Profession und ihrer Produkte stehen.
The Junior Professor for History and Theory of Landscape Architecture expands
the subject offerings for the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in the areas
of landscape architecture, landscape planning, architecture, urban planning and
design at the TUM since 2010.
Knowledge of the history in the field and the creation of individual open-spaces
and park systems is crucial for grounded professional practice. The critical
engagement with the social, cultural and political contexts of the conception and
implementation of civic open spaces contributes to the understanding of current
urban development. This engagement enables students to gain a critical and
nuanced perspective on the discourse of planning and design of future urban
projects. The analysis of theoretical writings; the study of primary sources such
as planning materials and government documents; the reception of parks and
open spaces in the public and academic press; and the documentation of actual
and evolving public uses of these spaces as reflected in interviews and other
reports: these and other resources provide a broad basis for students’ intellectual
development and imparts to them a sense of the ramifications of their decisions
as architects and planners. The treatment of scholarly materials and the
development of cogent arguments allow the students to participate directly in
urgent issues and perceive their historical background, while also nourishing
the next generation of scholars.
