Emerging Technologies
Emerging Technologies
The goal of this Chair is to develop innovative architectural designs that demonstrate
the potential of the most up-to-date structural and material developments.
The focus is on architecture, including topics such designing with parametric
computation, constructing of 1:1 prototypes, investigating sustainable
design practices, and researching innovative materials. International visiting
professors will alternate in leading the design courses. This will promote innovation
and ensure diversity in the teaching process in order to give the students
an exciting broad-based look into the international fields of architecture.
The programme of the visiting professorship in ´Emerging Technologies´ is
founded on the idea that design innovation arises from interdisciplinary design
and production practices. This founding principle is enhanced by the TUM’s
surrounding high-tech environment. Design and building processes can be conducted
in cooperation with nearby industrial partners (such as BWM, Eurocopter,
Siemens, Audi, SGL Carbon, etc.). The intended instruments of analysis and
design are to be centered in computational processes or other emerging strategies.
The course should be conducted in collaboration with other Chairs. In
Particular, due to the growing global awareness of the need to reduce carbon
emissions in current and future architectural designs, visiting professors are
strongly encouraged to conduct joint research in cooperation with the Munich
School of Engineering and the Centre for Energy-efficient construction.
The position is responsible for directing a design class in architecture at the
master’s level, as well as holding a lecture series on a chosen topic in the field
of innovative design practices or emerging design theory. In addition, a supplementary
skills course should be provided for master’s students in the format of
a seminar and a lecture series. The final projects should be presented at the end
of the semester in a public forum including an exhibition and a publication of
the semester’s results.
