Laboratorium der Moderne – Architektur in Großbritanien zwischen Industrialisierung
und Arts and Crafts
In die Lehre wird die Architekturgeschichte in den weiteren Kontext der allgemeinen
Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte integriert. Studierende sollen mit dem Grundlagenwissen
über das Bauen und mit den Grundbegriffen des architektonischen
Denkens vertraut gemacht werden, in denen sich Baupraxis und theoretische Reflexion
über Architektur zusammen schließen. Eine solche systematische Perspektive
ist nicht zuletzt grundlegend für die Analyse von Architektur, für eine kritische
Auseinandersetzung mit der eigenen Entwurfspraxis und für die Vermittlung der
eigenen Projektarbeit im Studium und im späteren Beruf. Das Fach wird in den
klassischen Lehrformaten von Seminar, Vorlesung und Exkursionen unterrichtet.
Laboratory of modernity - Architecture in Britain between industrialisation and
Arts and Crafts
In teaching, the history of architecture is integrated in the wider context of general
art and cultural history. Students will be made familiar with the basic knowledge
of building and with the basic concepts of architectural thinking, in which
construction practice and theoretical reflection on architecture combine. Such a
systematic perspective is fundamental to the analysis of architecture, to a critical
examination of the individual design practice, and the conveyance of the individual
project work during studies and later professional life. The subject is taught
using the traditional teaching formats of seminars, lectures and field trips.
Forschung Research
Gebaute Gesellschaft. Architekturtheorie als politische Theorie
Schlüsselwerke, die für die Entfaltung des theoretischen Nachdenkens über Architektur
bedeutsam waren, werden einer Lektüre aus der Perspektive der politischen
Ideengeschichte und der Gesellschaftstheorie unterzogen. Aus einer solchen Sicht
ist etwa daran zu erinnern, dass es sich bei der Dekorums-Lehre ursprünglich um
eine Soziallehre des angemessenen Verhaltens handelte, bevor sie in die Architekturtheorie
aufgenommen und für die Baukunst der Renaissance und des Barock
allgemein verbindlich wurde. Desweiteren sind zentrale Beiträge zur Architekturtheorie
des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts ohne den Rekurs auf die politischen Theorien
des Liberalismus und des Wohlfahrtsstaates kaum angemessen zu beurteilen.
Im Rahmen des Vorhabens entsteht eine Buchmonographie zur Architekturtheorie,
die chronologisch einen weiten Bogen von der Antike bis in die Gegenwart schlägt,
und zugleich das Thema unter einer strikt systematischen Fragestellung behandelt.
Built society. Architectural theory as political theory
Works of key importance for the development of theoretical reflection on architecture
will undergo a reading from the perspective of the history of political ideas and
social theory. From such a viewpoint, for instance, it can be seen that the teaching
of decorum was originally a concerned with the social teaching of proper comportment,
before it became a component in the theory of architecture and generally
obligatory in the architecture of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Furthermore,
key contributions to the architectural theory of the 19th and 20th century can
hardly be adequately assessed without the recourse to the political theories of liberalism
and the welfare state.
As part of the project, a book monograph on architectural theory is developed,
which draws a chronological line from antiquity to the present and at the same time
deals with the subject through a systematic interrogation.
