2.5.1 GENERAL<br />

FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMS IN STATIONS<br />

2.5.1.1 Air shafts (as def<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> Cl.2.6.1.4) need not be provided with<br />

manual call po<strong>in</strong>ts, alarm bells, detectors, spr<strong>in</strong>klers, fire<br />

ext<strong>in</strong>guishers or hosereels.<br />

2.5.1.2 Buffer areas need not be provided with detectors, spr<strong>in</strong>klers or<br />

hosereels.<br />

2.5.1.3 Dry ma<strong>in</strong>s land<strong>in</strong>g valves, hosereels and detectors where<br />

required need only cover the fans <strong>in</strong> tunnel ventilation fan<br />

rooms.<br />

2.5.1.4 Air plenums which do not conta<strong>in</strong> combustible materials need<br />

not be provided with fire protection.<br />

2.5.1.5<br />

The fire fight<strong>in</strong>g systems are permitted to receive Newater from<br />

PUB ma<strong>in</strong>s.<br />

2.5.2 PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS<br />

2.5.2.1 <strong>Fire</strong> ext<strong>in</strong>guishers shall be provided with<strong>in</strong> the station,<br />

commercial spaces and plantrooms at ground level entrances.<br />

Pedestrian underground or aboveground l<strong>in</strong>ks lead<strong>in</strong>g to station<br />

entrances and services ducts need not be provided with fire<br />

ext<strong>in</strong>guishers.<br />

2.5.2.2 Portable fire ext<strong>in</strong>guishers where required to be provided shall<br />

be constructed <strong>in</strong> con<strong>for</strong>mity with specifications stipulated<br />

under SS 232 Specification <strong>for</strong> Portable Ext<strong>in</strong>guishers.<br />

2.5.2.3 All portable fire ext<strong>in</strong>guishers where required to be provided<br />

shall be charged, tested and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> fully operational<br />

conditions and properly tagged <strong>in</strong> con<strong>for</strong>mity with<br />

requirements <strong>in</strong> SS CP 55 Code of Practice <strong>for</strong> Use and<br />

Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance of Portable <strong>Fire</strong> Ext<strong>in</strong>guishers.<br />

2.5.2.4 Classification of portable fire ext<strong>in</strong>guishers provided shall be<br />

selected <strong>in</strong> accordance with criteria specified under SS CP 55<br />

such that the nature of processes and contents with<strong>in</strong> the<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g concerned can be effectively protected. The size,<br />

quantity and sit<strong>in</strong>g of these portable fire ext<strong>in</strong>guishers shall<br />

comply with the requirements <strong>in</strong> SS CP 55 under the respective<br />

class of occupancy hazard.<br />
