2.3.5 EXTERNAL WALL<br />
2.3.5.1 External walls (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g any external cladd<strong>in</strong>g or <strong>in</strong>ternal<br />
l<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g) shall:<br />
(a) Be constructed wholly of non-combustible materials.<br />
(b) Be so constructed as to atta<strong>in</strong> the fire resistance<br />
required by this <strong>Standard</strong>.<br />
2.3.5.2 Except where otherwise provided, unprotected areas <strong>in</strong> any<br />
side of a station shall comply with the follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
(a) Any relevant requirements relat<strong>in</strong>g to the permitted<br />
limits of unprotected areas specified <strong>in</strong> APPENDIX D<br />
unless the station is so situated that such side may <strong>in</strong><br />
accordance with APPENDIX D consists entirely of<br />
any unprotected area, and<br />
(b) The extent of unprotected open<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> an external wall<br />
of a station <strong>in</strong> relation to its distance from the lot<br />
boundary may be double that which is specified <strong>in</strong><br />
APPENDIX D when the station or compartment is<br />
fitted throughout with an automatic spr<strong>in</strong>kler system <strong>in</strong><br />
compliance with the requirements <strong>in</strong> Section 2.5, and<br />
(c) For the calculations of unprotected areas, plat<strong>for</strong>m<br />
public areas shall be excluded from the unprotected<br />
open<strong>in</strong>gs calculation, and<br />
(d) Where a ground level entrance of an underground<br />
station is a s<strong>in</strong>gle storey structure with no habitable<br />
room, the distance 'X' between the external wall of the<br />
entrance and the external wall of an adjacent build<strong>in</strong>g<br />
as shown <strong>in</strong> Diagram 2.3.5.2(d) shall comply with the<br />
distance stipulated <strong>in</strong> APPENDIX D based on the<br />
extent of unprotected open<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> the external wall of<br />
the adjacent build<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
2.3.5.3 Cladd<strong>in</strong>g on external walls shall be of non-combustible<br />
construction.<br />
2.3.5.4 Any reference to APPENDIX D shall be construed as<br />
referr<strong>in</strong>g to the provisions of Part I of that Appendix together<br />
with (at the option of the person <strong>in</strong>tend<strong>in</strong>g to erect the<br />
build<strong>in</strong>g) the provisions of Part II.<br />
