2.6.5<br />
(ix) The exhaust fan shall be capable of operat<strong>in</strong>g<br />
effectively at 250ºC <strong>for</strong> 2 hours and supplied<br />
from a secondary source of supply.<br />
(x) Replacement air shall be provided and if it is<br />
supplied by a separate mechanical system, such a<br />
system shall be connected to a secondary source<br />
of power.<br />
(d) The smoke purg<strong>in</strong>g system need not be a dedicated<br />
system. Where dampers are used to direct the smoke<br />
<strong>for</strong> the smoke purg<strong>in</strong>g system, motorised smoke<br />
dampers shall be used.<br />
(e) Shops as permitted <strong>in</strong> Cl. 2.1.3 are not required to be<br />
provided with smoke control system.<br />
(f) Public area outside the commercial space shall be<br />
provided with smoke purg<strong>in</strong>g system as shown <strong>in</strong><br />
Diagram 2.6.4.1(f).<br />
(g) The smoke purg<strong>in</strong>g system <strong>in</strong> the station public area<br />
shall be automatically activated by detectors located <strong>in</strong><br />
the station public areas. Similarly the smoke purg<strong>in</strong>g<br />
system <strong>in</strong> a non-public area shall be activated by the<br />
fire alarm signals from that particular non-public area.<br />

TRAINWAY EMERGENCY VENTILATION SYSTEM<br />
2.6.5.1 An emergency ventilation system shall be designed <strong>for</strong> a tra<strong>in</strong><br />
fire <strong>in</strong> an underground and enclosed stations tra<strong>in</strong>way as<br />
follows:<br />
(a) Provide a tenable environment along the path of egress<br />
from the fire <strong>in</strong>cident.<br />
(b) Be capable of reach<strong>in</strong>g full operational status <strong>in</strong> 120<br />
seconds or less.<br />
(c) The emergency ventilation fans shall be provided such<br />
that <strong>in</strong> the event one of the fans is not operational, the<br />
other fan(s) shall be capable of ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the system<br />
design.<br />
(d) The replacement air velocity aga<strong>in</strong>st the direction of<br />
escape at doorways and escape routes shall not exceed<br />
5m/s<br />
