2.5.7 LIFTS<br />

2.5.7.1 Lifts (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g fire lifts) shall be <strong>in</strong>stalled <strong>in</strong> accordance with<br />

the SS 550 Code of Practice <strong>for</strong> Installation, Operation and<br />

Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance of Electric Passenger and Goods Lifts except as<br />

modified <strong>in</strong> APPENDIX J <strong>for</strong> the lift(s) <strong>in</strong> the station used <strong>for</strong><br />

the safe evacuation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).<br />

2.5.7.2 Notwithstand<strong>in</strong>g the requirements <strong>in</strong> SS 550, <strong>in</strong> the event of<br />

power failure or power <strong>in</strong>terruption <strong>in</strong> the normal (primary)<br />

power supply whereby a dual feeder power supply is provided,<br />

the supply to the lift(s) shall be automatically switched over to<br />

the other feeder and the lift(s) cont<strong>in</strong>ue its normal operation<br />

without hom<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

2.5.7.3 Emergency lift control dur<strong>in</strong>g power failure and/or fire<br />

emergency <strong>for</strong> hydraulic lifts shall also comply with Cl.2.5.7.2<br />

and the requirements of SS 550 respectively.<br />

2.5.7.4 The power supply to the lift shall be connected to a sub-ma<strong>in</strong><br />

circuit exclusive to the lift and <strong>in</strong>dependent of any other ma<strong>in</strong><br />

or sub-ma<strong>in</strong> circuit. The power cables serv<strong>in</strong>g the lift<br />

<strong>in</strong>stallation shall be routed through an area of negligible fire<br />

risk shall be routed through an area of negligible fire risk.<br />

2.5.7.5 <strong>Fire</strong> Lift<br />

(a) Underground stations exceed<strong>in</strong>g 3 basement storeys<br />

shall be provided with at least one fire lift.<br />

(b) The fire lift shall be conta<strong>in</strong>ed with<strong>in</strong> a separate<br />

protected shaft or a common protected shaft conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

other lifts subject to such other lifts be<strong>in</strong>g served at each<br />

storey by a fire-fight<strong>in</strong>g lobby.<br />

(c) A fire lift shall have access to every habitable floor<br />

above or below the designated floor and shall be<br />

adjacent and accessible to an exit staircase and be<br />

approached by a fire-fight<strong>in</strong>g lobby at each storey.<br />

(d) A fire lift shall be provided with an operational feature<br />

that would enable firemen to cancel first or earlier call<br />

which had been <strong>in</strong>advertently made to the fire lift<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g an emergency.<br />

(e) A lift ma<strong>in</strong>ly <strong>in</strong>tended <strong>for</strong> the transport of goods shall<br />

not be designated as a fire lift.<br />
