ACCESSWAY<br />

E.1 In general, the m<strong>in</strong>imum width of the accessway shall be 6m<br />

wide and the m<strong>in</strong>imum length shall be 15m long. Diagram<br />

E.1 shows the relationship between the accessway and parked<br />

fire eng<strong>in</strong>e with its front and rear jacks extended.<br />

E.2 Accessway shall be on<br />

a) Suspended slabs, or<br />

b) On metalled or paved ground, or<br />

c) Ground laid with strengthened per<strong>for</strong>ated slabs or<br />

d) Approved materials<br />

to withstand the load<strong>in</strong>g requirements of fire eng<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

E.3 The accessway required to serve build<strong>in</strong>g shall be constructed<br />

to susta<strong>in</strong> the load of a 30 tonnes fire eng<strong>in</strong>e. The wheel load<br />

shall be considered separately with the jack loads <strong>for</strong> both<br />

global and local effects.<br />

E.4 Axles load <strong>for</strong> accessway shall be as follows:<br />

Front Axles 7,500 kg 2 wheels<br />

Rear Axles 21,000 kg 8 wheels<br />

E.5 The jack load shall be assumed to be uni<strong>for</strong>mly distributed<br />

over a rectangular contact area of 923cm 2 <strong>for</strong> both local and<br />

global analysis.<br />

E.6 The maximum pressure on one jack, even <strong>in</strong> the worst case,<br />

will not exceed 80N/cm 2 .<br />

E.7 In the absence of more exact calculations, live load surcharge<br />

<strong>for</strong> accessway on suitable material properly consolidated may<br />

be assumed to be at least 10 kN/m².<br />
