(c) <strong>Fire</strong> doors or shutters held open by electromagnetic or<br />
electro-mechanical devices shall be activated to close by<br />
the localized smoke detector(s) on either (one) side of<br />
the fire doors or shutters, and<br />
Exemption: <strong>Fire</strong> shutters <strong>in</strong> non-public areas (i.e.<br />
activated by fusible l<strong>in</strong>k only).<br />
(d) Use of fire shutter not exceed<strong>in</strong>g 6m <strong>in</strong> width shall be<br />
permitted.<br />
(e) Any fire door fitted <strong>in</strong> an open<strong>in</strong>g which is provided as<br />
a means of escape:<br />
(i) Shall be capable of be<strong>in</strong>g opened manually, and<br />
(ii) Shall not be held open by any means other than<br />
by an electromagnetic or electro-mechanical<br />
device which can be activated by the presence of<br />
smoke and/or the fire alarm system, provided that<br />
this shall not apply <strong>in</strong> the case of fire doors<br />
open<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to pressurised exit staircases, and<br />
(iii) Shall open <strong>in</strong> the direction of exit travel <strong>in</strong><br />
accordance with Cl. 2.2.5.13(d).<br />
(f) <strong>Fire</strong> resist<strong>in</strong>g doors where required to be provided shall<br />
be constructed and <strong>in</strong>stalled to comply with<br />
specifications stipulated under SS 332 Specification<br />
<strong>for</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> Doors and SS 489 Specification <strong>for</strong> <strong>Fire</strong><br />
Shutters.<br />
(g) <strong>Fire</strong> shutters shall not be used as security shutters.<br />
(h) The <strong>in</strong>active leaf of double-leaf doors <strong>for</strong><br />
plant/equipment/mach<strong>in</strong>e rooms and <strong>for</strong><br />
lobby/corridor lead<strong>in</strong>g to these rooms, where the<br />
<strong>in</strong>active leaf is only <strong>for</strong> use as equipment access, need<br />
not be fitted with a self-clos<strong>in</strong>g device, but must be<br />
bolted <strong>in</strong> place and fitted with a sign “Keep door<br />
bolted”.<br />
