2.8.4.2 Where a station has an underground l<strong>in</strong>k connected to a nontransit<br />

occupancy, the follow<strong>in</strong>g shall be complied with:<br />

(a) The l<strong>in</strong>k shall not be used as means of escape. The<br />

underground l<strong>in</strong>k shall be considered as part of the<br />

station and shall comply with the relevant fire safety<br />

requirements <strong>in</strong> other sections of this <strong>Standard</strong>.<br />

(b) The station shall be separated from the non-transit<br />

occupancy by fire-rated shutters hav<strong>in</strong>g at least 2 hours<br />

fire resistance. The localised smoke detector shall be<br />

provided on both sides of the fire rated shutter. The firerated<br />

shutters shall be activated by:<br />

- the localised smoke detector/s on either side (i.e. one<br />

side) of these fire shutters,<br />

- the adjacent build<strong>in</strong>g fire alarm zones <strong>in</strong> adjacent<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Upon activation of the localized standalone smoke<br />

detector, an alarm signal shall be sent to the fire alarm<br />

panels of both the station & the adjacent build<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Where motorised fire-rated shutters are provided, the<br />

fire-rated shutters after clos<strong>in</strong>g by the activation of the<br />

smoke detector(s) shall rema<strong>in</strong> closed and be rendered<br />

<strong>in</strong>operative until the alarm has been reset.<br />

Note: This alarm signal is not used to trigger the<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g fire alarm but is <strong>in</strong>tended to provide the status<br />

that the shutter is activated and is used as a means to<br />

reset the fire alarm panel to reopen the fire shutter after<br />

its activation. There<strong>for</strong>e, the smoke detector located at<br />

the side of the shutter is not part of the build<strong>in</strong>g fire<br />

alarm.<br />

(c) Use of fire shutter not exceed<strong>in</strong>g 6m <strong>in</strong> width is<br />

permitted.<br />

2.8.4.3 Where a station has an elevated l<strong>in</strong>k/overhead-bridge<br />

connected to a non-transit occupancy, the follow<strong>in</strong>g shall be<br />

complied with:<br />

(a) The l<strong>in</strong>k shall not be used as means of escape. The<br />

elevated l<strong>in</strong>k shall be considered as part of the station<br />

and shall comply with the relevant fire safety<br />

requirements <strong>in</strong> other sections of this <strong>Standard</strong>.<br />
