STANDBY FIRE HOSE FOR RISING MAIN<br />
F.1 Type and fold<strong>in</strong>g method<br />
F.1.1 The standby fire hose shall be of 63.5mm nom<strong>in</strong>al <strong>in</strong>ternal<br />
diameter <strong>in</strong> order to ensure that the hose coupl<strong>in</strong>g will fit<br />
exist<strong>in</strong>g coupl<strong>in</strong>g tail pieces. The hose shall be rugged and<br />
capable of carry<strong>in</strong>g water under substantive pressure <strong>in</strong><br />
accordance with BS 6391. The fire hose shall be of type 3 as<br />
stipulated <strong>in</strong> BS 6391.<br />
F.1.2 The fire hose coupl<strong>in</strong>gs shall be manufactured to BS<br />
specification or equivalent and of light alloy or gunmetal.<br />
The coupl<strong>in</strong>g shall be of type 63.5mm and be of the<br />
<strong>in</strong>stantaneous type with standard (double-pull) release<br />
mechanism. The coupl<strong>in</strong>gs shall be tied <strong>in</strong> by b<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g with<br />
galvanised mild steel wire and applied over a hose guard of<br />
synthetic fibre. It shall be able to withstand a m<strong>in</strong>imum<br />
work<strong>in</strong>g pressure of 15 bars.<br />
F.1.3 Each hose shall have a standard length of 30m and shall be<br />
kept stowed <strong>in</strong> a Dutch Rolled position and housed <strong>in</strong> a glassfronted<br />
cab<strong>in</strong>et.<br />
F.2 Position<br />
F.2.1 The fire hose shall be <strong>in</strong>stalled just next to, but not more than<br />
2m from the land<strong>in</strong>g valve.<br />
F.2.2 The entire fire hose and cab<strong>in</strong>et shall be out of direct sunlight.<br />
F.3 Mount<strong>in</strong>g<br />
The wall mounted fire hose cab<strong>in</strong>et requirement shall be as<br />
follows:<br />
(i) The cab<strong>in</strong>et shall be firmly mounted on the wall and<br />
rigid to take either one or two fire hose weight.<br />
(ii) The cab<strong>in</strong>et shall be constructed of non-combustible<br />
material.<br />
(iii) The cab<strong>in</strong>et lock, if provided, shall be of the type that<br />
could be operated manually from the <strong>in</strong>side without<br />
the use of a key when the front pla<strong>in</strong> glass/plastic<br />
(m<strong>in</strong>imum 300mm x 300mm) is broken by the fire<br />
fighter.<br />
