2.3.2.2 In comput<strong>in</strong>g the cubical extent of compartments <strong>in</strong> shops<br />

and similar premises, a height of 4m may be used where the<br />

actual height exceeds that figure, provided that this rule <strong>for</strong><br />

measurement shall not be applied when a compartment<br />

comprises more than one storey or conta<strong>in</strong>s mezzan<strong>in</strong>e or<br />

galleries.<br />

2.3.2.3 Compartmentation by Height<br />

(a) In any compartment up to a habitable height of 24m,<br />

no compartment shall comprise more than 3 storeys.<br />

(b) In any station which exceeds 24m <strong>in</strong> habitable height,<br />

no compartment shall comprise more than one storey<br />

<strong>for</strong> compartments at storey level exceed<strong>in</strong>g 24m above<br />

average ground level.<br />

2.3.2.4 The follow<strong>in</strong>g situations shall require compartmentation by<br />

provision of compartment walls and/or compartment floors:<br />

(a) <strong>Transit</strong> and non-transit occupancies shall have a fire<br />

separation of at least 2 hours. Stations connected to<br />

non-transit occupancies shall comply with the relevant<br />

requirements of Section 2.8.<br />

(b) All public areas shall have a fire separation of at least<br />

2 hours from ancillary areas.<br />

Exception 1: <strong>Fire</strong> separation shall not apply to<br />

Passenger Service Centre, station<br />

master room, ticket<strong>in</strong>g office and<br />

enclosures hous<strong>in</strong>g ticket vend<strong>in</strong>g<br />

mach<strong>in</strong>es.<br />

Exception 2: Plat<strong>for</strong>m public areas need not be fire<br />

separated from the tra<strong>in</strong>way and buffer<br />

areas.<br />
