2.3.6.2 A separat<strong>in</strong>g wall shall have no open<strong>in</strong>gs except <strong>for</strong>:<br />

(a) A door required to provide a means of escape <strong>in</strong> the<br />

event of a fire, hav<strong>in</strong>g the same fire resistance as that<br />

required <strong>for</strong> the wall and comply<strong>in</strong>g with Cl. 2.3.9.2,<br />

or<br />

(b) A door provided <strong>for</strong> the purpose of public circulation,<br />

hav<strong>in</strong>g the same fire resistance as that required <strong>for</strong> the<br />

wall and comply<strong>in</strong>g with Cl. 2.3.9.2, or<br />

(c) Open<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> the passage of a pipe comply<strong>in</strong>g with the<br />

relevant provisions of Cl. 2.3.9.3.<br />

2.3.6.3 A separat<strong>in</strong>g wall shall be either carried up to <strong>for</strong>m a close<br />

jo<strong>in</strong>t with the underside of a pitched roof of non-combustible<br />

cover<strong>in</strong>g or carried up above the level of such roof cover<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

The junctions between such separat<strong>in</strong>g wall and roof shall be<br />

properly fire-stopped so as not to render <strong>in</strong>effective the<br />

resistance of such separat<strong>in</strong>g wall to the effects of the spread<br />

of fire.<br />

2.3.6.4 If any external wall is carried across the end of a separat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

wall, such external wall and separat<strong>in</strong>g wall shall be bonded<br />

together or the junction of such walls shall be fire-stopped to<br />

comply with the requirements of Cl. 2.3.12.<br />

2.3.6.5 No combustible material shall be built <strong>in</strong>to, carried through<br />

or carried across the ends of or carried over the top of<br />

separat<strong>in</strong>g walls <strong>in</strong> such a way as to render <strong>in</strong>effective such<br />

separat<strong>in</strong>g walls to the effects of the spread of fire.<br />

2.3.7 COMPARTMENT WALLS AND<br />

COMPARTMENT FLOORS<br />

2.3.7.1 Every compartment wall or compartment floor shall be<br />

required to:<br />

(a) Form a complete barrier to fire between the<br />

compartments it separates, and<br />

(b) Have the appropriate fire resistance to comply with the<br />

requirements of Cl. 2.3.3, and<br />

(c) Be constructed of non-combustible materials (together<br />

with any beam or column which <strong>for</strong>ms part of the wall<br />

or floor and any structure which it carries).<br />
