2.10.3 EMERGENCY ACCESS<br />
2.10.3.1 Emergency access to the tra<strong>in</strong>ways shall be provided.<br />
2.10.3.2 Access to tra<strong>in</strong>way shall be from the station or via the<br />
firemen’s mobile ladder or equipment from roadway adjacent<br />
to the tra<strong>in</strong>ways. If no adjacent or cross<strong>in</strong>g roadway exist,<br />
access roads at a maximum 800m <strong>in</strong>tervals shall be required.<br />
The design of the access road shall be similar to that of the fire<br />
eng<strong>in</strong>e accessway stipulated <strong>in</strong> Section 2.4.<br />
2.10.3.3 Where security fences are used to secure an area along the<br />
tra<strong>in</strong>ways, access gates, m<strong>in</strong>imum 1 m wide, shall be provided.<br />
In<strong>for</strong>mation that clearly identifies the route and location of<br />
each gate shall be provided on the gates or adjacent thereto.<br />
2.10.4 EGRESS FOR PASSENGERS<br />
2.10.4.1 The <strong>Rapid</strong> <strong>Transit</strong> System shall <strong>in</strong>corporate means <strong>for</strong><br />
passengers to evacuate a tra<strong>in</strong> at any po<strong>in</strong>t along the tra<strong>in</strong>ways<br />
and reach a po<strong>in</strong>t of safety. System egress po<strong>in</strong>ts shall be<br />
illum<strong>in</strong>ated.<br />
2.10.4.2 An emergency pathway of m<strong>in</strong>imum 800mm width shall be<br />
provided along the tra<strong>in</strong>ways. Unobstructed access, such as<br />
steps or ramp, shall be provided at cross-over trackway<br />
2.10.4.3 Where the tra<strong>in</strong>way concreted track bed serves as emergency<br />
egress pathway, it shall be nom<strong>in</strong>ally level and free of<br />
obstructions. Where signall<strong>in</strong>g equipment is located along the<br />
emergency egress pathway, ramp and plat<strong>for</strong>m shall be<br />
provided. The edges of the ramp and plat<strong>for</strong>m shall be pa<strong>in</strong>ted<br />
with bright yellow pa<strong>in</strong>t to enhance its visibility.<br />
