2.1.2.35 An outer wall or vertical enclosure, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a part of the<br />
roof pitched at an angle of 70 degrees or more to the<br />
horizontal if that part of the roof adjo<strong>in</strong>s a space with<strong>in</strong> the<br />
station to which persons have access.<br />
2.1.2.36 The m<strong>in</strong>imum period of time dur<strong>in</strong>g which an element of<br />
structure or element of a station/tra<strong>in</strong>way may be expected to<br />
function satisfactorily while subjected to a standard fire test.<br />
2.1.2.37 A seal provided to close an imperfection of fit or any jo<strong>in</strong>t<br />
between elements, components or construction so as to<br />
prevent and restrict penetration of smoke and flame through<br />
that imperfection or jo<strong>in</strong>t.<br />
2.1.2.38 A smoke-stop lobby which is adjacent to a fire lift or<br />
firemen's staircase and designated <strong>for</strong> use by the fire fight<strong>in</strong>g<br />
team dur<strong>in</strong>g an emergency.<br />
2.1.2.39 <strong>Fire</strong>men's staircase means a staircase that has its enclosure<br />
constructed of non-combustible material and shall have a fire<br />
resistance of not less than that <strong>for</strong> the element of structure<br />
and designated <strong>for</strong> use by firemen.<br />
2.1.2.40 Guideway means that portion of the transit l<strong>in</strong>e with<strong>in</strong> rightof-way<br />
fences, outside l<strong>in</strong>es of curbs or shoulders,<br />
underground tunnels, cut or fill slopes, ditches, channels, and<br />
waterways, and <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g all apperta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g structures.<br />
2.1.2.41 A floor or part thereof, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g roof level, regardless<br />
whether it is opened to sky or not, designated to be used <strong>for</strong><br />
any purpose/activity other than hous<strong>in</strong>g lift motors, fire<br />
pumps, water supply pumps, cool<strong>in</strong>g towers and water tanks.<br />
Such purpose/activity shall <strong>in</strong>clude terrace, garden and<br />
playground and other M & E plants.<br />
2.1.2.42 The habitable height is the height measured from the average<br />
level of the ground adjo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the outside of the external walls<br />
of the station to the f<strong>in</strong>ished floor level of the highest<br />
habitable floor.<br />
2.1.2.43 Headway means the time <strong>in</strong>terval between arrival of<br />
consecutive tra<strong>in</strong>s of the same service at the plat<strong>for</strong>m of a<br />
station.<br />
2.1.2.44 Heat release rate means energy evolved under a given fire<br />
scenario expressed as a function of time.<br />
