2.2.5.14 FARE COLLECTION GATES AND TURNSTILES<br />

(a) Fare collection gates, when deactivated, shall provide<br />

a m<strong>in</strong>imum clear width <strong>in</strong> accordance with<br />

Cl.2.2.5.4(f). Consoles shall not exceed 1100mm <strong>in</strong><br />

height.<br />

(b) A turnstile-type fare collection gate shall provide a<br />

m<strong>in</strong>imum clear width <strong>in</strong> accordance with<br />

Cl.2.2.5.4(g). Maximum height of the turnstile bar<br />

shall not exceed 1000mm.<br />

(c) Fare collection gates and turnstiles shall be designed<br />

to be deactivated automatically <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

events:<br />

(i) A loss of power to the lock<br />

(ii) Upon activation of a manually operated switch<br />

accessible to authorized personnel with<strong>in</strong> the<br />

PSC, <strong>in</strong> the absence of which, at the OCC.<br />

After deactivation, the fare collection gates and<br />

turnstiles shall be designed to be reactivated only at<br />

the manual control switch.<br />

(d) When deactivated,<br />

(i) Freewheel or open <strong>in</strong> the exit direction, and<br />

(ii) Permit movement of passengers <strong>in</strong> the exit<br />

direction regardless of any failure to operate<br />

properly.<br />

2.2.5.15 Where gate-type emergency exits are provided <strong>in</strong> comply<strong>in</strong>g<br />

with Cl.2.2.3.9, they shall be electrically operated and shall<br />

be designed so that they will be deactivated <strong>in</strong> accordance<br />

with Cl.2.2.5.14(c).<br />

2.2.5.16 Where more than one exit is required from an area, a room<br />

or a compartment, such exits shall be remotely located from<br />

each other and shall be arranged and constructed to<br />

m<strong>in</strong>imise the possibility that more than one can be blocked<br />

by any one fire or other emergency condition. The<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g shall be complied with:<br />
