2.9.4.2 The breech<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>lets shall be located with<strong>in</strong> 18m from the fire<br />

eng<strong>in</strong>e accessway and be visible from the fire eng<strong>in</strong>e<br />

accessway. Breech<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>lets shall be appropriately numbered<br />

and labelled as shown <strong>in</strong> Diagram 2.9.4.2.<br />

2.9.4.3 Two standby hoses shall be provided at each of the follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

locations:<br />

(a) Buffer area with<strong>in</strong> 3m from the stair lead<strong>in</strong>g to the<br />

tra<strong>in</strong>ways (see Diagram 2.9.4.3(a));<br />

(b) Mid tunnel exit staircase; and<br />

(c) Underground or enclosed tra<strong>in</strong>way portal (see Diagram<br />

2.9.4.3(c)).<br />

Standby hoses shall be provided <strong>in</strong> accordance with<br />

APPENDIX F with the exception of Cl. F2.1.<br />

2.9.4.4 Automatic fire detection systems shall be provided at designated<br />

locations <strong>in</strong> underground or enclosed tra<strong>in</strong>ways where tra<strong>in</strong>s are<br />

stabled dur<strong>in</strong>g non-revenue hours. The guidance <strong>for</strong> selection of<br />

detectors is described <strong>in</strong> SS CP 10. The use of l<strong>in</strong>e type heat<br />

detectors is permissible.<br />

2.9.5 COMMUNICATION<br />

2.9.5.1 Underground or enclosed tra<strong>in</strong>ways shall be provided with<br />

radio communication facilities capable of operat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the<br />

frequency band of 470 - 490 MHz range.<br />

2.9.5.2 <strong>Fire</strong> resistant cables comply<strong>in</strong>g with SS 299 shall be used <strong>for</strong><br />

communication system equipment specified <strong>in</strong> this standard,<br />

except <strong>for</strong> the leaky co-axial (LCX) cables which are required<br />

to be fire retardant.<br />

2.9.6<br />

EMERGENCY VENTILATION SYSTEM<br />

2.9.6.1 A mechanical emergency ventilation shall be provided <strong>in</strong><br />

underground or enclosed tra<strong>in</strong>ways exceed<strong>in</strong>g 300m.<br />

2.9.6.2 A mechanical emergency ventilation system is not required <strong>for</strong><br />

underground or enclosed tra<strong>in</strong>ways not exceed<strong>in</strong>g 60m <strong>in</strong><br />

length.<br />
