SECTION 2.2<br />

STATION MEANS OF ESCAPE<br />

2.2.1 GENERAL General<br />

2.2.1.1 The provisions of this section of the <strong>Standard</strong> shall serve to<br />

express the <strong>in</strong>tentions <strong>for</strong> determ<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the design,<br />

construction, protection, location, arrangement and<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>tenance of exit facilities to provide safe means of escape<br />

<strong>for</strong> occupants.<br />

2.2.2 OCCUPANT LOAD<br />

2.2.2.1 Except as required <strong>in</strong> Cl.2.2.2.4 and Cl.2.2.2.5, the occupant<br />

load <strong>for</strong> a transit station shall be:<br />

(a) The cumulative occupant load <strong>for</strong> all plat<strong>for</strong>ms <strong>in</strong> the<br />

station calculated <strong>in</strong> accordance with Cl.2.2.2.2 and<br />

Cl.2.2.2.3.<br />

(b) Based on the peak hour patronage as projected <strong>for</strong> the<br />

design of the transit system.<br />

2.2.2.2 The maximum occupant load <strong>for</strong> each plat<strong>for</strong>m <strong>in</strong> a station<br />

shall be calculated based on:<br />

(a) The greater of the a.m. or p.m. peak period loads.<br />

(b) The simultaneous evacuation of the entra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g load<br />

and the l<strong>in</strong>k load.<br />

(c) The entra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g load and l<strong>in</strong>k load <strong>for</strong> each track shall<br />

be based on the entra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g load and l<strong>in</strong>k load per<br />

headway multiplied by the follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

(i) The system surge factor, and<br />

(ii) In the peak direction, an additional factor of 2<br />

to account <strong>for</strong> one missed headway.<br />

(d) The maximum l<strong>in</strong>k load at each track shall be the<br />

maximum passenger tra<strong>in</strong> capacity.<br />
