2.9.3.5 The emergency light<strong>in</strong>g shall be connected to an emergency<br />

power supply capable of ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the m<strong>in</strong>imum<br />

illum<strong>in</strong>ation level <strong>for</strong> at least 2 hours.<br />

2.9.3.6 <strong>Fire</strong> resistant cables of m<strong>in</strong>imum 2-hour rat<strong>in</strong>g shall be used.<br />

2.9.4 FIRE PROTECTION<br />

2.9.4.1 Underground or enclosed tra<strong>in</strong>ways shall be provided with dry<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>s. The dry ma<strong>in</strong> system and its associated water supply,<br />

control and test<strong>in</strong>g requirements shall be <strong>in</strong>stalled <strong>in</strong><br />

accordance with SS 574, except as here<strong>in</strong> modified:<br />

(a) Dry ma<strong>in</strong> system shall be provided <strong>in</strong> accordance with<br />

Diagram 2.9.4.1(a) <strong>for</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g areas:<br />

i) Each underground tra<strong>in</strong>way located between two<br />

stations;<br />

ii) Each underground or enclosed tra<strong>in</strong>way between a<br />

station and the tra<strong>in</strong>way portal; and<br />

iii) Each underground or enclosed reception or test<br />

track.<br />

(b) For over-run tra<strong>in</strong>way, the dry ma<strong>in</strong> system can be<br />

served with only one breech<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>let at the station end.<br />

(c) The nom<strong>in</strong>al bore of the dry ma<strong>in</strong> shall not be less than<br />

150mm.<br />

(d) The dry ma<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> the tra<strong>in</strong>ways need not be fire-rated.<br />

(e) Land<strong>in</strong>g valves shall be located at not less than 2m and<br />

not more than 3m from exit staircases and cross<br />

passageways and shall be spaced at <strong>in</strong>tervals not<br />

exceed<strong>in</strong>g 60m along the tra<strong>in</strong>way.<br />

(f) The first land<strong>in</strong>g valve of the dry ma<strong>in</strong> after the<br />

breech<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>let shall be located not exceed<strong>in</strong>g 3m from<br />

the <strong>in</strong>terface of the station box and the tra<strong>in</strong>way. For the<br />

case of Cl.2.9.4.1(a)(ii), the first land<strong>in</strong>g valve after the<br />

breech<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>let shall be located not more than 3m from<br />

the portal.<br />

(g) Where gaskets are used <strong>in</strong> pipe jo<strong>in</strong>ts <strong>for</strong> dry ma<strong>in</strong>s<br />

serv<strong>in</strong>g different tra<strong>in</strong>ways but located <strong>in</strong> common TV<br />

vent shaft and TVF fan room, the gaskets shall be<br />

suitable <strong>for</strong> use <strong>in</strong> an ambient atmosphere of 250C.<br />
