(k) Where electrically locked doors are located <strong>in</strong> the<br />
required means of escape path,<br />
(i) The doors shall be unlocked:<br />
- upon activation of the station's fire alarm<br />
- <strong>in</strong> the event of loss of power to the lock<br />
- upon activation of a manually operated<br />
switch by authorized personnel mann<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the Passenger Service Centre or, <strong>in</strong> the<br />
absence of which, at the OCC,<br />
After unlock<strong>in</strong>g, the lock shall be designed to<br />
be reactivated only at the manual control<br />
switch, and where activated by the station's fire<br />
alarm, after the station's fire alarm has been<br />
reset.<br />
Exception: Doors to equipment rooms not<br />
<strong>for</strong>m<strong>in</strong>g part of the means of escape <strong>for</strong> the<br />
public shall not be unlocked by activation of<br />
the station's fire alarm and the manually<br />
operated switch <strong>in</strong> PSC/OCC.<br />
(ii) A break-glass manual release device<br />
- shall be <strong>in</strong>stalled 1.2m vertically above the<br />
floor and with<strong>in</strong> 1.5m of the exit door jamb<br />
on the egress side, and<br />
- when operated, shall result <strong>in</strong> direct<br />
<strong>in</strong>terruption of power to the lock<br />
<strong>in</strong>dependent of the control system<br />
electronics, and<br />
(iii) Signage with shape, dimension, colour scheme,<br />
letter<strong>in</strong>g style and letter<strong>in</strong>g sizes comply<strong>in</strong>g with<br />
SS 508 shall be <strong>in</strong>stalled<br />
- On the egress side of doors read<strong>in</strong>g<br />
“Emergency Exit. Door will<br />
automatically unlock <strong>in</strong> case of<br />
fire/emergency”, and<br />
- On the break-glass manual release<br />
device read<strong>in</strong>g “EMERGENCY DOOR<br />
RELEASE”.<br />
