SECTION 2.3<br />
STATION STRUCTURAL FIRE PRECAUTIONS<br />
ROOT OBJECTIVES<br />
The primary <strong>in</strong>tentions of this section are encapsulated <strong>in</strong> the<br />
follow<strong>in</strong>g statements:-<br />
R2.3.1 Prevent the untimely collapse of any part of the station<br />
structure due to the effects of fire that would affect the safe<br />
egress of the station occupants.<br />
R2.3.2 Avoid the spread of fire from and to adjacent build<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />
R2.3.3 The station shall rema<strong>in</strong> structurally stable to allow adequate<br />
time <strong>for</strong> fire-fighters to conduct their fire-fight<strong>in</strong>g and rescue<br />
operations.<br />
SUB-OBJECTIVES<br />
The follow<strong>in</strong>g criteria def<strong>in</strong>e the conditions necessary to fulfil<br />
the <strong>in</strong>tentions of this section:-<br />
S2.3.1 Provisions of elements of structure with appropriate fire<br />
resistance with respect to:-<br />
(i) the fire severity; and<br />
(ii) fire-fight<strong>in</strong>g and rescue operations; and<br />
(iii) the occupant evacuation time; and<br />
(iv) enclosure characteristics and configurations of the<br />
station; and<br />
(v) the height and depth of the station; and<br />
(vi) occupancy characteristics; and<br />
(vii) different levels of fire risk.<br />
S2.3.2 The construction and use of build<strong>in</strong>g materials should be of the<br />
type and method appropriate to the <strong>in</strong>tended per<strong>for</strong>mance.<br />
S2.3.3 Provisions <strong>for</strong> adequate measures to limit the development of<br />
fire.<br />
